Start of Preliminary Task
At this point I didn't have any experience in using an Apple mac and any of the programmes which are on the mac like pages and photoshop. So I made my school magazine on powerpoint which isn't the best programme to use to make a magazine. I did some research on school magazine front covers and contents pages to see what features they had and analysed them. I made a plan on pages of what my magazine would look like, i just used boxes to show where everything would. -

I learnt how to layout a magazine front cover and contents page appropriately, with colours that go well together and stand out using big font to make it easier and clearer to read. In this task I analysed different school magazine front covers. -
Preliminary Task Evaluation
I think this task went well in quite a few ways, By doing research on what different magazine front covers and contents pages have helped me a lot to show how to lay the magazine out and what fonts and colours go with different background colours to see whether they contrast and blend with each other so it looks professional, also doing the plan of the front cover and contents page helped me because it was easier to set up the pages and know what goes where on the page this makes it quicker as -

I have leant in this task how major magazine covers layout their magazines so people will buy them, including what they put on the front cover like the image (camera angles, lighting), the magazine name, the target audience, the colours that blend with each other on the front cover which makes it stand out. -

I have learnt from this task the history of some major magazine titles including when they were first published, the county they originated from, the genre, the institution the use e.g. Bauer or IPC media and also the cost of the magazine. -

I have learnt in this task how much major magazines know who there customers and buyers are and how they lay out their rate cards and what they include in them. -
How magazines attract an audience
I have learnt in this task how music magazines attract their audience and what key features of a major magazine like the way they put the persons eyes looking out of the magazine making eye contact with the person looking at the magazine front cover to persuade them to buy the magazine, also using big names artists persuading people to buy the magazine. -

I have learnt in this task what my target audiences want in a music magazine e.g. whats on the front cover and also where people read music magazines and where they but them and what my target audience's favourite magazine genre is. -

Formatting
I learnt in this task how NME who are a big music magazine company, lay out their front cover page, contents page and double page spreads and what they include in them so it can help me when it comes to me making my music magazine so I know where to place special feature, page numbers, the mastheads and other features which will make my magazine better. -
Picture Research
I have learnt in this task what camera angle makes a picture effective and stands out to the reader in different music magazine and what the picture represent by the way the person is looking out of the page using eye contact to draw the readers attention also to show the full fashion of someone e.g. Kerrang!, NME, Q. -
Picture Research
In the preliminary I took my photos on a standard camera and didn't think about the location and setting compared to my final piece where I did, i had to think about the location the weather, setting who was going to be in the shoot the timings, also the camera I used was a lot better as I could have it on many different settings. -
My MM Pitch
This task helped me to understand what I need to put into my magazine and what magazine ideas I am going to do for example I am going to do roughly the same sort of magazine as NME, so basically all genres, also I looked at the target audience of NME as they will have the same audience as I will. -
My Own Flat Plan
This is my flat plan for my magazine it show what it has on every page from 1 to 70, front to back including things like advert, the gig guide, the puzzle page, posters of the artist/band and also what every double page spread has on it.
In this task I learnt about what goes into planning all the pages in a magazine. A flat plan creates an easy way to view how the finished pages in the magazine should be laid out. -
My Rate Card
In this task I learnt about the purpose of a rate card. It's meant to provide information about a magazine and what is in it to persuade the target audience to buy the magazine. Someone could get a general idea on what the magazine is like just by reading the rate card. -
Planning Layout
In this task I learnt how I should align my front cover, contents page and double page spread so my finished magazine look professional, also now I no roughly where everything is going to be placed on my pages and the different features I am going to have. looking back at the preliminary task I have learnt how to lay out my magazine, where all the key features go on the page to make them stand out at the reader. My preliminary task's layout was simple and crowded -
Typography
In this task I learnt what text I should use on my double page spread, the text needs to relate to the genre. Also I thought about the different colours and fonts sizes that go with the genre and which will look good on the double page of my article. I went though a lot more resaearch to find fonts that fit my genre of the pages and suit the layout of the pages, this is much better than when I did it in the preliminary task. -

My final product improved massivley over the time since I started my pleminary task becuase I used a variety of different programmes like photoshop which developed and so I was able to put better features effects on my images and in my final piece, also pages I found difficult to use at the start as I had never used the program before, but getting used to it was very easy. -

I used powerpoint for my pleminary task which I now know wasn't the best programme to use to create my magazine. The photos where off a much better quality than the photos in the preliminary task, also the way i layed out my photos on the page was much better. The fonts, colours and the actual layout of the pages where much better than the prliminary task.
