Start of Preliminary Task
To start off we analysed a magazine, trying to find certain codes and conventions that defined a magazine. Then we created a draft layout for our preliminary magazine, which would be based around schools. We found some examples of ambient advertising and analysed them before finally experimenting for the first time with Prezi by doing a font analysis. -
Preliminary Magzine & Contents
I used the knowledge we had gained from analysing a school magazine to create my own. I made a front cover and contents page. Although they were very basic, the task gave me an idea of what the final product should look like. -
Evaluation of Preliminary Magazine
I used Prezi again to create an evaluation of my (preliminary) magazine. I briefly summed up the strenghts of my magazine and wether it met the demands placed on it and fulfilled the codes and conventions that are expected of it. -
Music Magazine Cover Analysis
Similarly to what I did with the school magazine, I analysed a music magazine. However this time I was far more in depth. I did this so I knew exactly what a magazine consists of, which would be helpful when it came to me creating my own. -
History of Music Magazines
I created my first timetoast timeline containing a brief history of music magazines in order to get a better understanding of how music magazines have evolved over time. -
Double Page Spread Analysis
I analysed a double page spread of a magazine the same way I did for the front cover, noting any points of interest that represent the specific codes and conventions that are found in these double page spreads -
Music Institutions video
I created a short video in iMovie that gave some examples of institutions (magazine publishers) and provided some information about them. -
Contents Page Analysis
Like the front cover and double page spread, I analysed a contents page. Like the others, I was trying to get an idea of what a contents page is comprised of. -
Music Magazine Institutions grid
This grid acted as a visual presentation that gave a brief overview and history of some music magazines. Including their country of origin, price, publisher, frequency of releases and when they were founded. -
Representation of Music Magazines
Instead of just generally analysing this cover I had to instead focus on how the model is dressed and the use of backdrop and colour. This change of analytical perspective is useful as it encourages us to look deeper into subtle messages conveyed by magazines and how they can use these effectively to attain their audience. -
Rate Cards
I collected a few rate cards from different music magazine websites. I then annotated them, pointing out the kind of demographics and audience they are aiming for so I get a better idea who my audience would be. -
Magazines on display
I went to a shop to look at examples of magazines in an environment they are usually purchased in. This helped me get an idea of how they would be displayed and the type and quantity of magazines on offer. -
Formatting Research
After looking at a few magazines and their layouts I came to a decision of what I wanted my magazine to look like. -
Flat Plan
I created a flat plan of a Kerrang magazine I purchased. I did this to get an idea of how they were supposed to look so I had some reference material when I eventually made my own for my magazine. -
Picture Analysis
I took photos of some pictures in a magazine then annotated them with a brief description of their different aspects -
Dragon's Den Pitch
For this task we had to make a Dragon's Den inspired pitch for our magazine. This created a scenario where we needed to talk about the strengths of our magazine and how it would sell in today's economic environment. As well as that it also encouraged us to have a clear idea of who our audience are and how we will market to them. Also, we stated what we intend to show on our 3 different pages and how they include all the codes and conventions. -
My own flat plan
I created a flat plan for my magazine. I used the one I wrote earlier as a reference and based my adverts and articles around the ethos of my magazine to keep the theme consistant. -
My audience rate card
I created my own rate card for my audience, using a compliation of pictures that I believe capture the identity of my audience. -
1st draft Interview (for double page spread)
This 'interview' with my cover star is used on my double page spread to fill up the space reserved for text. -

This is just a plan of all the things that needed doing in order to get the pictures for my magazine. -

This is just a collage of fashion to provide an example of the kind of things my models will be wearing during the shoot -
