Planning the project: production schedule
Task is to produce a production a production schedule for the foundation portfolio, to help organize our time for the project. -
Research/case studies of real music magazines (Planning)
You will need to decide on a genre of music to work with for your magazine project. Carry out research into magazines of this genre. -
Preliminary task:LSC magazine (planning)
In this task you will produce pages from a college magazine using PhotoShop and InDesign. You need to create a front page and a contents page, and include original photography. -
Audience feedback and evaluation-preliminary task/college magazine(planning)
Gather audience comments and feedback on your college magazine. This may be done in class, as a focus group, online via your blog, or on survey monkey or similar. Use the feedback to write an evaluation of your production skills to date. -
Magazine newsstand task/distribution of magazines (planning)
a) Go to a newsstand. This might be a newsagent and / or a supermarket. Have a look at the music magazine titles available, where and how they have been displayed, and anything you notice about the front covers, mastheads, cover lines and images. Take some pictures on phone and upload them. Write up your findings on your blog.
b) Research other magazine distribution methods, especially those which make use of other media technologies. -
Drafting and finalizing house styles, drafts and layout(Planning)
As a group or individually: Write a short proposal for your magazine. This should include how your own mag links to the case studies you did in Task 2. -

Evaluate the audience feedback from the pitch from focus groups and / or survey monkey. Make any changes to your plans as per the feedback, and clearly signpost changes on your blog. This needs to be blogged on the week commencing -
Photography(Construction)
On the week commencing 20th October 2014 you will be shown how to use the DSLR camera in the studio to take photographs to use in your music magazine. Take photos and notes, and blog about this. You need to then do your photography in the studio and on location. You need to have a minimum of four original images in the final magazine, using a range of models, mise en scene and shot types as appropriate to your chosen magazine / genre. -
Desk top publishing and editing your music magazine(Construction part 2)
On 20th November you must show a rough draft of the three pages to the class and record their feedback on your work in progress on your blog. You will also pair up with another student to proof-read and sub-edit copy. -
Desktop publishing and editing your music magazine (Construction)
The front cover, contents page and DPS needs to be complete and uploaded to your website by 30th November 2014. You should use PhotoShop for the front cover and InDesign for the contents page and DPS. Do the contents page first, using your flat plan. This will inform the coverlines for the front cover, and the numbering of the DPS. -
Audience research-main task/ music magazine (Planning/Evaluation)
Gather audience comments and feedback on your music magazine. This may be done in class, as a focus group, and/ or online via survey monkey. Ask the audience to comment on specific strengths and weaknesses, and how the final magazine compares to your drafts and plans. This feedback needs to be complete before 5th December 2014 -
Planning the evaluation(Evaluation)
This element is important and is worth 20% of the coursework grade.Draft your answers. Produce a proposal to show which technologies you will use to answer each question, and why. This should be presented and uploaded on the week commencing 15th December 2014. Then over the Christmas break, you should work on re-drafting your answers. -
Creating the Evaluation (Evaluation)
You will be marked according to how appropriate your chosen technologies are to the presentation of your answer, and how creative / interactive you are, as well as the content of your answers.
The evaluation answers need to be uploaded to your blog by Friday 16th January 2015. -
All Foundation Portfolio work must be complete and uploaded to your blog for submission to the exam board by Wednesday 21st January 2015. This includes all of the above tasks, and regular blog posts documenting your progress.
