There were 19 militants in an Islamic extremist group known as al-Qaeda.They hijacked four airliners and carried suicide targets against the united states. 2 of the planes flew into the towers of the World Trade Center in NYC. A 3rd plane hit the pentagon outside of Washington D.C and the 4th plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.This was important because terrorist wanted to attack and destroy the financial and governmental powers of the U.S. This would be in government/ society category.
