Archduke Franz Ferdinand traveled to Sarajevo, a city his country had taken over 6 years before his visit. Before Ferdinand visited, members of a terrorist group discussed a plan to kill him. After his arrival, Ferdinand and his wife pulled up to a sandwich shop and got out of their vehicle, only to be fatally killed by one of the terrorists. -

Adolf Hitler sought power from the moment he was released from prison, after he attempted to overthrow Germany's government. Hitler spoke highly of Germany and won over the Nazi Party with his claims of Germany's greatness. The Nazi Party continued to grow stronger and eventually, Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany becoming the most powerful person in the German government. -

Japans attack on Pearl Harbor
On December 7, of 1941, the Japanese dropped a s uprise attack on Pearl Harbor, which was home to the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet. The Japanese dropped bombs and torpedos, shocking many americans who had thought the U.S. was at peace. The attack on Pear Harbor took 2,400 lives and destroyed U.S. aircraft and battleships. The attack lead to the United States going to war along side the Allies. -

When North Korea went to war on South Korea, the U.S. got involved with the intent in stopping North Korea's forces. Persian Gulf War begins
The Persian Gulf War started after Saddam Hussein, an Iraq leader, accused Kuwait of stealing oil from Iraq. This lead to Hussein invading Kuwait. In order to stop Saddam Hussein, the United States launched the Persian Gulf War, attacking Iran while they were still in Kuwait. After a few weeks, the United States won and Kuwait was freed. -
