  • War of 1812

    The war of 1812 lasted until 1814 and was fought between the United States and Great Britain. It was concluded with the Treaty of Ghent and ended all hostilities between the United States and Britain.
  • Trail of Tears

    The Comanche Indians were forced from their ancestral home with the Treaty of New Enchota and instead had to travel to present day Oklahoma and Kansas where their new land resided.
  • Steel Plow

    Invented by Joh Deere, the steel plow revolutionized farming as it was much sturdier then the previous plows
  • Texas Statehood

    Texas is introduced as the twenty-eighth state by James K Polk, the recently elected president.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican American war. While America had to pay Mexico $15 million, Mexico in return gave America almost half of it's territories.
  • Compromise of 1850

    The Compromise of 1850 created the Fugitive Slave act, resolved the boundary issue of Texas-New Mexico, abolished the slave trade in Washington, DC, admitted California as a free state, and allowed the rest of the territories to decide if they wanted to enter as a free or slave state via popular sovereignty.
  • Uncle Tom's cabin

    Published by Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1852, Uncle Tom's cabin brought the horrors of slavery to light and lit a fire among the northerners.
  • Election of 1860

    Abraham Lincoln wins the election of 1860, and his extreme anti-slavery beliefs cause many of the southern states to secede
  • First Battle of Bull Run/Manassas

    First Battle of Bull Run/Manassas
    Lincoln ordered the Union soldiers to march towards Richmond Virginia. The original plan commanded a second force to attack General Joseph Johnston to prevent the confederacy from gaining reinforcements. However, this plan proved too complicated for the new army and the Union lost the battle.
