The portable clock was invented
The first portable clocks were invented by Filippo Brunelleschi In Florence, Italy. He was a famous architect. Although clocks were invented before, those were large, heavy, and chunky. With this, you can carry it around with you and still know the time. -

The sculpture David is completed
Donatello was an Italian sculptor who spent about 5 years building "David." Donatello wanted his sculpters to look real and almost alive. He used marble, terracotta, wood, and bronze in his sculpters. The David that was white was not this one. That "David" was actually by Michelangelo. This sculpter was bronze. -

The printing press was invented by a German inventer named Johannes Gutenberg. Before, people had to write multiple pages of stuff and that would have taken maybe years to complete. This help lead to many people slowly learning more and more and knowing more about what was happening around them. -

The Birth of Venus is a famous painting by Sandro Botticelli. The picture depicts the roman goddess of love, Venus. According to the myth, she sprang from the ocean as a full grown woman and the winds pushed her to the seashore where she was invited and taken care of by the Three Graces. The painting is currently in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. -

The Mona Lisa is a very famous painting by the Italian artist, Leonardo da Vinci. This painting is believed by historians that it was first started in 1503. It took about 4 years for him to paint this. -

The Sistine Chapel ceiling is completed
Michelangelo, an Italian artist, started the Sistine Chapel in about 1508 because Pope Julius II requested it. Michelangelo gets all the credit for painting this, and deserves it for going through all those sketches, and almost breaking his back to paint the 131 by 43 ft ceiling. However, he did have A LOT of assistants to help him mix paint, fix ladders, and prepare a days plaster (a yucky job). -
The microscope was invented
The first useful microscope was inventedin Netherlands by either Hans Lippershey, Hans Janssen, of Zacharias. They were all eyeglass makers who were given credit for inventing it. The microscope helped many advances in medicine and hygiene. -
The telescope was invented
A Dutch eyeglass maker named Hans Lippershey invented the first telescope. Galileo Galilei was the first person to use this new invention to study the skies. The telescope advanced the knowledge of the heavens. The first binocular telescope was invented by J.P. Lemiere in 1825, 217 years later! -
The submarine was invented
The submarine was invented by a Dutch inventer named Cornelius van Drebbel. Leonardo da Vinci made a basic drawing about 1 hundred years before, however. It could only stay under the water for a few hours, and could not go any lower than about 15 feet.
