Missouri Compromise
Missouri granted statehood following political battle about whether it would be a free or slave state.
Using the 3/5th compromise, Missouri was allowed to enter the union as a slave state and Maine entered as a free state.
Compromise also dedicated all lands North of 36 30 to be free territory for future states.
This agreement stood until the Dred Scott Decision. -
