Attack on the Jin Dynasty
The Mongol army attacked the Jin Dynasty in 1232. The Jin were experts at warfare on horseback and so were the Mongols. With the help of the Song Empire they defeated the Jin Dynasty. -

Khubalai assumed the tittle of Great Khan in 1260 and was proclaimed the emperor of China in 1271. -

Khubalai sends an invitation to the Pope
Khubalai invited the Pope to send 100 priests in 1270 or 1271 because he had a great interest in Western Europe and Catholicism. This shows how open minded he was as a ruler. -

A name for the new dynasty
In 1271 Khubalai adopted the name "Yuan" for the new dynasty, in reference to the changes occurring. I was the one who suggested the name for the new dynasty to Khubalai and this shows how much trust he had in me and how close we were. -

Advance in banking
In 1273 Khubalai issued paper banknotes called Chao. The Yuan Dynasty was the first dynasty in the world to use paper currency as the major circulating medium. It was a big innovation in the banking and monetary system because it had some advantages over coins.
