New Khan named Kublai
When Kublai Khan begins his rule of the Mongol Empire he continues the efforts to control Southern China. These efforts bagan 25 years earlier in 1235. At the time it was the Song Dynasty that was defemding their empire very well from the Mongol attacks. Song Dynasty: The Song Dynasty was a very well defended empre after learning the most effective ways after multiple attcks from other armies. The revolutionary way that they were able to defend themselves so well was the creation of gunpowder. -

The end of the Song
It wasn't for another 19 years that the Mongols finally get over thrown. Still being Khan of the Mongols Kublai gives himself the title of ruler. With this victory Kublai begins the Yuan Dynasty. Kamikaze: Kamikaze was used then by the Japanese to name the great storm that saved them from the Mongol's attacks on Japan. It literally meant the "divine wind". Today the meaning is much different, with the usual meaning being "arial strikes". -

After ruling for about 34 years Kublai Khan finally meets his death. For the reason of having less skilled rulers after his death the Yuan Dynasty also comes to its end. -

It was of this year that Marco Polo and his father return from thier voyage. Their home that they return to is located in Venice. Marco later becomes a prisioner during a battle fought close by. -

It was around this time that scholars in Asia began to think that the disease "Black Death" spread from Asia to the Mid East and over to Europe. Black Death: The Black Death was a terrible epedemic that spread all over Asia and Europe. It was so large that it killed around 100 million people in Europe at its peak. Many believed that its origin was from somewhere in Asia though. -

Cease of foreign ruling
A Chinese rebel army finally is able to defeat the Mongols, ending their rule, the army was led by a peasnt by the name of Zhu Yuanzhang. This rebellion's victory resulted in the end of foreign ruling in China. -

Hongwu and his efforts
Hongwu died in 1398, he had the goal of throwing out all the Mongol traditions. He planned on replacing them with the original Chinese traditions that they once had. -

Yonglo and his rule
Hongwu's son Yonglo ruled as emporer during this time. He changed a few things after his father passed away such as moving the capital to Beijing and building the Imperial City there. Forbidden City: This city was built by Yonglo in Beijing after his father died and left him as emporer. He built this city to act as the Imperial City for the Ming Dynasty. The name "Forbidden City" was given to it because it was said that no one that didn't work there was never allowed to enter it. -

Over a span of 28 years a man named Zheng He sailed with 300 ships around China. However, they did once make it all the way over to Africa. The reasoning behind this was to display China's power to everyone who saw the fleets. -

Hongwu's son Yonglo ruled as emporer during this time. He changed a few things after his father passed away such as moving the capital to Beijing and building the Imperial City there. The Great Wall of China: The Great Wall of China was built during the Ming Dynasty by Yonglo. The reasoning behind building the Great Wall was to stand as a barrier for defense against attacks on the empire. -

When a new emporer takes the throne he ends these voyages. He told the people that the large portions of money could be spent on better causes. The causes where things such as making sure their defense was strong and he and others also believed that it drained the treasury. Junks: Junks were used to cover all the types of ships they had during the time. However, the variety was large so they had ships that could cross the ocean and junks that were meant for personal use. -
Trying to be accepted
A European by the name of Matteo Ricci went over to China as a Jesuit preist. In hope of being accepted into thier society he adopted the Chinese language and some of thier customs. -

The Ming Dynasty lasted around 300 years after Monglos were forced to retreat to Manchuria in 1368. -

The Qing Dynasty is the last one to ever be. This is after being under imperial rule for over 3,500 years. -
Manchu take over
Manchu people take over Beijing in 1644. Instead of being captured and possibly tortured, the Ming emporer coitted suicide. From then on the Qing dynasty begins its growth. Queue: Queue was a hair style that was required for men to have of the Manchu people. This style was to be mostly shaved in the front, while in the back they had long hair that was typically braided. -
