Japanese Invasion of China
On July 7th, 1937 Japan attacked Manchuria. They were looking for raw materials to help fuel its growing economy. Japan broke some of the rules of the L.O.N. This lead to the start of WW2 because Japan eventually withdrew and so did Germany, causing the start of WW2. German Invasion on Poland
Germany attacked Poland jointly with the Soviet Union which marked the start of WW2 on Sep 1st, 1939. Germany attacked Poland to try and regain lost territory. It ended an era of appeasement and triggered Great Britain and France to declare war on Germany.

Fall of Paris
On June 14, 1940 Paris fell under Nazi rule. Germany attacked Paris to weaken Frances military, economy, as well as trying to limit them from reaching out to gather support. Germany killed hundreds of civilians not realizing some were school Children. On August 25th,1944 Paris was finally liberated.

Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor is on the Island of Honolulu. It was attacked by Japan on December 7, 1941. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because it was essentially a "gas station". Hitting Pearl Harbor would almost disable the U.S. Navy from interfering in WW2. It would also weaken our Military. The attack killed thousands of sailors, destroyed about 20 boats and 300 Airplanes. Bataan Death March
The death march started on April 9th, 1942. Around 60,000 American and Filipino were imprisoned and forced to walk about 65 miles to imprisonment camps. It was used as a buffer to see who had possession of the Philippines. The U.S surrendered and so the effect of that was all the American troops were imprisoned.

Battle of Midway
On June 4,1942 the start of a 4 day battle, the U.S Navy defeated Japan. We destroyed 4 of their aircraft carriers while being outnumbered. Japan attacked the U.S fleet to try and gain Midway as a base to attack Pearl Harbor. It was important because it ruined Japans hopes in neutralizing the U.S. It ended on June 7th, 1942

Battle of Stalingrad
There was a major battle where the Nazis tried to take over the city of Stalingrad. Germany attacked Stalingrad because of industrial capacities and it was close to the Volga river which would cut off resources. This boosted Russia's confidence and put Russia on defense. It was one of the last German offenses where Hitler hoped that a counter attack would surround British and American armies and stall them. This battle caused the German to stop advancements on Normandy.

Operation Thunderclap
In February of 1945 a series of efforts against cities in Eastern Germany was created to pave the way for the Red Army. Soon Germany would be overrun. Battle of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest battles in history. It started on Feb 19th, 1945 and ended on March 26th, 1945. The Island was targeted by the U.S so that we could gain a military base and then attack another Island. The effects were that supposedly only 200/21,000 Japanese soldiers survived. Battle of Okinawa
The battle of Okinawa was a major battle of the Pacific War which would provide an airbase from which bombers could strike Japan and anchorage for Navy fleets. It helped the U.S advance the attack on Japan, but there were 49,000 U.S casualties and 12,520 men were killed. The battle ended on June 22nd, 1945

We dropped 2 Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We dropped them by plane because of the attack on Pearl Harbor. It killed 10s of thousands of people, destroyed cities and added to the ending of WW2 -
VJ Day
This was the mark of the day when Japan surrendered from WW2. It was essentially the end of the deadliest war in the World. It happened in Time Square, New York, where a lot of people gathered and cheered. The effect was a feeling of relief, also the end of the 6 year war. All prisoners of war were also Liberated.
