Events Leading to our Constitution (P.S- G.B = Great Britain)

  • The French and Indian War : 1754-1763

    The French and Indian War : 1754-1763
    The French and Indian War began the fight for U.S freedom. When the American colonies began to move west (still under the rule of G.B) they came into a conflict with the French, and their land. The British and French fought over land, each with Indian allies. This event was important at the time, because it was a war over land, OUR land. It impacted colonists because it made them step back and look at Britain; or the king's choices. Without this war, we might not be a free country.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was a law passed by British Parliament that made it illegal for the colonists to move west of the Appalachians. The French and Indian war had at the time ended, and G.B had thousands in debt. This law was made to save $$. This law impacted colonists because it limited their ability to move west.At the time this law made colonists step back and look at G.B, for what they really were. It impacted our future, because, again, without this law, we could still be under G.B.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was a tax to pay for the The French and Indian War. It made it so that in order to pay a tax to use any kind of paper. The colonists refused to pay the tax. They started boycotting the special stamp papers, and hurting tax collectors. This event impacted colonists because they had to unfairly pay for something that wasn't entirely their fault. At the time, this was the first step towards our freedom. This event impacted us today, because it showed G.B the power of the U.S.A.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act was another law passed by G.B. It ensured that King George wouldn't have to pay for care of their troops. The Quartering Act forced colonists to house and care for G.B's soldiers. This impacted colonists because despite their struggles, they had to care for more than just their family. This was important at the time, because it was another right stripped from the colonists. Our constitution states we can refuse the quartering of soldiers, thus impacting our future.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a very large riot that took place due to the cruelty of G.B on colonists. The colonists, angry, due to the Town-shed Acts, gathered in a mob, to yell at the soldiers. Shots were fired, killing 5 colonists. This was important at the time because it started the 'rallying cry' for patriotism. It impacted the colonist, because 5 colonists died in this battle. It impacted the future, because this was a big cause of the Revolutionary War, which led to our freedom.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea Act was a law that stated colonists could only buy tea from G.B, and it was to be taxed. The colonists were mad. Tea was the most popular drink at the time. This impacted the colonists because tea was the most popular drink, and the fact that they had to pay taxes for it was wrong. This was important at the time because it united everyone in the fight for freedom, and cheap tea. This act impacted the future, because it led to the Boston Tea Party, pushing the colonies closer to freedom.

    In The Boston Tea Party was a riot to protest the Tea Act. Colonists dressed as Mohawks, and boarded 3 trade ships and threw boxes of G.B's tea into the ocean. This was important at the time because it was an act showing G.B that they weren't being fairly treated/recognized. This impacted the colonists because it led to a lot of trouble down the road.The Tea Party impacted the future, because it was a big cause of the American Revolution. It also showed people to fight for what you believe in.

    The Intolerable Acts: March 24 1774- June 2 1774
    The Intolerable Acts were a set of laws passed by G.B to make the lives of the colonists intolerable. The acts were the Quartering,Quebec & Boston Port Acts, Massachusetts Regulating Act, Administration of Justice Act. These acts did things such as closing off ports until the cost of the dumped tea was paid for. This impacted colonists because it was unfair. It was important at the time because the colonists were being miss treated. It impacted our future because it showed us what to not do.
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies. The meeting took place in Philadelphia. The delegates had gotten together to discuss the unfairness of G.B's rule. This event was important at the time, because it was one of the initial acts of independence. It impacted the colonists because it gave them a chance to speak their minds, and their rights. It impacted the future because without this event, we never would have made the walk to freedom.
  • Paul Revere's Ride

    Paul Revere's Ride
    Most people know Paul for his bravery at the start of the Revolutionary War. Mr. Revere was the one who alerted the colonist military that "The British are coming!" This was important at the time because it readied our army for G.B's initial attack. This affected the colonists because it alerted them of the coming British, saving many lives. Without Paul, the fate of the war could have been very different. If that first attack had come as a surprise, the fate of the war could have changed.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord
    The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the American Revolution. For that reason, they had great importance at the time. In the battle of Lexington, the colonist troops fled, over powered by British troops. In the battle of Concord, the American troops won, giving them a sense of power- thus impacting the colonists. Finally, it impacted the future because the battles gave us the sense of power and union we have today.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress met to discuss problems with Great Britain in Philadelphia. In the Second Continental Congress, the delegates came up with the Olive Tree Petition, a request to meet with the King to discuss their rights.This event impacted the colonist's because it united them in a fight for their rights. This act was important at the time because it showed G.B we were a free country. It impacted the future because without this event, we wouldn't have our current rights.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill.

    The Battle of Bunker Hill.
    In the Battle of Bunker Hill, the British were trying to take control of some hills around Boston for military tactics. The colonists went to stop them, and a war broke out. The British got the hills, but suffered many casualties. This impacted the colonists because their enemies just got an advantage. It was important at the time because this battle actually expanded the military, giving us more soldiers. This impacted our future because it made us realize we can stand up to G.B.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
    Common Sense was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine that argued why the U.S.A should have independence from G.B. It was important at the time because this was a huge act of leadership. This event impacted colonists because it convinced everyone that independence was the "common sense" thing to do. It impacted our future because it swayed the ideas of anyone who was still for G.B, leading to our freedom.
  • The Writing of the Declaration of Independence

    The Writing of the Declaration of Independence
    The Deceleration of Independence was a document written by Thomas Jefferson. It declared the Independence of the U.S from G.B. This was important at the time because it meant that people were taking control of the situation. It effected the colonists because it was a document for their rights. This event impacted our future because without it we wouldn't have a Declaration of Independence. It lasted from July 1 1776- July 4, 1776.
  • The Declaration is Adopted

    The Declaration is Adopted
    This event was the day that the Declaration of Independence was adopted by congress/ the U.S.A. It was a very important event because we were showing everyone that we were independent, and we were owning it. It impacted the colonists because they now had something to prove their independence. Finally, it impacted the future because without the adoption of this amazing document, we might not have our current independence.
  • The Signing of the Declaration of Independence

    The Signing of the Declaration of Independence
    This event was when the Declaration was signed, and FULLY excepted. This was important because lots of people were finally taking action and showing their independence. This impacted the colonists, because thanks to the signatures, they REALLY had something to prove their freedom. And it impacted our future because it finalized this document, making our independence true.
  • The Battle of Saratoga

    The Battle of Saratoga
    This battle was a victory for the U.S. G.B suffered many casualties, causing them to surrender. American troops took shots at the troops when they were least expecting it (through the familiar vegetation), and made it hard to walk on land. This event impacted the colonist, because it made them think that victory could be possible. It was important at the time, because after this battle, the French army joined sides with the U.S. It impacted the future because it pushed us closer to our freedom.
  • The Battle of Monmouth

    The Battle of Monmouth
    The battle of Monmouth was an in conclusive battle that ended in a long-term victory for the U.S. George Washington led the attack. This battle was important at the time because the U.S troops had the aid of the French. Even though the battle was inconclusive, it ended with a colonist victory, impacting the colonists. This battle impacted our future, because if it had ended in a British victory, the following battles would look very different. So would our future.
  • The Battle of Cowpens.

    The Battle of Cowpens.
    This battle was an American victory after many many losses. The American militia came up with an attack plan which used a defense of three lines. This event was important at the time because it was an easily earned victory after many tough losses. This event impacted the colonists because it gave them the emotional strength to win the war. Because of this battle, they were even more decisive, and won the war, and soon our freedom, thus impacting the future.
  • Articles of Confederation Adopted

    Articles of Confederation Adopted
    The Articles of Confederation was our first Constitution. However, they didn't really work out, because they didn't provide the U.S with the strength a new country, or any country, needed. However, it did keep the country in union, and it did supply us with a government. This is how/why it impacted colonists, and was important at the time. It impacted our future, because it led to a strong Constitution ( when we recognized the flaws) which led to a good, strong government.
  • The Surrender At Yorktown

    The Surrender At Yorktown
    This was the final battle of the Revolutionary war, ending in a surrender from G.B when the American troops has surrounded them and cut off all of their resources. It was a huge success for the colonists, proving its importance at the time. It affected the colonists because they were no longer fighting for freedom. They had won the war. This event is important now, because after the surrender, everyone knew everything was going to be O.K. And now, because of the surrender, we are free.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris was the document signed to show that G.B was to recognize the independence of the U.S.A. The second major point was that the U.S boundaries had to have room to expand west. This proved important in the future, impacting us today. This impacted the colonists because G.B was finally recognizing their independence. They were free! This event was important at the time for the same reasons. Also, it made peace between G.B and the U.S.
  • Shay's Rebellion Aug. 29 1786- Feb. 27 1787

    Shay's Rebellion Aug. 29 1786- Feb. 27 1787
    All of the debt from the Revolutionary War led to a tax which devastated many, especially farmers in Massachusetts. The farmers land plots where sold, leaving them with nothing. The farmers protested and rioted. This eventually turned into a rebellion led by Daniel Shays. This was important at the time, and impacted colonists because the U.S had to figure out it's government, and deal with the rebellion. Without this rebellion, our government NOW (a.k.a the future) might not be as strong.

    The U.S Constitution being signed was a big event leading to our freedom, and in finalizing the Constitution. It impacted the colonists because it gave them rules and a strong government they hadn't had before. It was important at the time for the same reasons. It impacted the future because it gave us the thing that made us who we are today. The U.S Constitution.

    The U.S Constitution was a document that established rule and government. It impacted colonists because it proved that everything was happening. The U.S was independent and with a government. It was important at the time because it gave everyone have rights. Without this, our lives would mirror those of the more unfortunate. This document made us who we are today.
