The forced transfer from Saisaih Pt. and Mariveles to Camp O'Donnell by the Imperial Japanese Army. Liberation of Concentration Camps
Soviet soldiers were the first to liberate concentration camp prisoners in the final stages of the war. They entered the Majdanek camp in Poland, and theb overran several other camps. A major battle in which the U.S. Marines landed on and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima. The island of Iwo Jima was a strategic location because the US needed a place for fighter planes and bombers to land and take off when attacking Japan. Battle of Okinawa
A series of battles fought in the Ryukyu Islands, on the island of Okinawa, and included the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific.

Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
The American bomber Enola Gay dropped a five-ton bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
