    Last German offensive invasion on the western front. Hitler used his blitzkrieg tactic and tried to separate the allied forces. Caught off-guard, American units fought desperate battles to stem the German advance. As the Germans drove deeper into the Ardennes forest in an attempt to secure vital bridgeheads, the Allied line took on the appearance of a large bulge, giving rise to the battle’s name.

    On Jan. 27,1945, German soldiers began to encounter tens of thousands of concentration camp prisoners. Many of these prisoners had survived forced marches into the interior of Germany from camps in occupied Poland. These prisoners were suffering from starvation and disease. Many of these people lost their families and were broken apart, they were mistreated.These camps were horrible everyone suffered every day.

The United States drops an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. In 1940, the United States had been working on developing an atomic weapon. The United States then, managed the first successful test of an atomic bomb, but the time Germany had already been defeated.
