Japanese Invasion of China
The conflict broke out when China began full scale resistance against the spread of Japanese influence. The Japanese were attempting to unseat the nationalist government there by occupying many territories in Eastern China. A stalemate occured and Japan turned their attention to WWII. After there loss against the allied powers, their occupation in China ended. Ended in Sept. 4th, 1945.

Germany Invasion of Poland
4:45 a.m. 1.5 million German troops begin the invasion of Poland. The German Luftwaffe bombs Polish airfields, and German ships attack the Polish Naval divisions. Hitler claims it was a defensive action but Britain and France were not convinced. They declare war whcih begins the Second World War. Ended Oct. 6th, 1939

German Blitzkrieg
Germany overran much of Europe for more than two years becasue the had a new tactic . It was called Blitzkrieg aka Lightning Warfare. When the Germans invaded the Soviet Union the Blitzkrieg tactic was working tremendously, but Hitler then declared war on the US. US. troops then destroyed the enitre German Army.

Operation Barbarossa
Operation Barbarossa was th code name the Germans used for the invasion of the Sovit Union. Hitler had an extreme desire to conquer Russia. He describs this in his book "Mein Kampf".

Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor was an attack on the US by th Japanese. This is the main reason the United States entered WWII. 2335 servicemen were killed. 68 civilians were killed.

Wannsee Conference
This is where the main German leaders met to discuss the "Final Solution". They decided the Jews would be sent out of the country to concentration camps. they would then be murdered.

Japanese Internment
This is when Japanese were sent to internment camps inside the US. 110,000 to 120,000 people of Japanese decendence were sent to these camps. 62% of these people were US citizens.

Bataan Death March
After the US surrender of the Bataan Peninsula on the island of Luzon to the Japanese during WWII the approximately 75,000 Filipino and American troops on Bataan were forced to make a grueling 65-mile march to prison camps.

Battle of Midway
The Battle of Midway was a decisive naval battle in WWII. Only six months after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea, the United States Navy defeated a fleet of japanese naval ships.

Manhattan Project
The Manhattan Project was a research and development project that produced the first nuclear weapons during WWII. It was led by the United States with the support of the United Kingdom and Canada. Without it, the war could have not ended when it did.

Battle of The Bulge
This battle was an offensive assualt by the Germans to try to split the allied forces. They went through the dense forest called Ardennes and surprised the US troops. Despite many casualties, the US neutralized the German forces.

Battle of Iwo Jima
This battle was major for the US. 3 divisions of US marines carried out an attack on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. There were roughly 23000 Japanese troops on the island, but after a month of battle, the US came out victorious.

VE Day
VE stands for Victory in Europe day. This marked the surrender of the German force. It was celebrated on May 8th. Great Britain also celebrated.

Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
At approximately 8.15am a US B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, instantly killing around 80,000 people. Three days later, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, causing the deaths of 40,000 more.
