Formation of Germany
German Kingdom of Prussia launched first of a series of wars to unite various German states. By 1871 Prussia had united Germany proclaimed the birth of the German Empire. Germany grew rapidly as a nation after the wars. -
Formation of Alliance
Germany made an alliance with Ausrtia-Hungary and Italy to protect its self from France. This alarmed Russia becasue they were competing with Austria-Hungary for southesdtern Europe. Then Russia became allies with France. -
The Naval Race
germany began to build a large modern naval. This began a competition between Germany and Britian for the best naval strength. Britian had an entnte cordial with Russia and France. -
Use of Animals
Animals were a huge part of WWI. Dogs and Pigeons were used for messaging. Horses world provide transport and used for many other things. -
The start of World War
Ausrtia-Hungary blamed Serbia for an assassination on Austria so Austria declared war on Serbia. Russia immediatly mobilized their army. Germany then declared war on Russia and then on France. World War 1 had began. -
America Joins
America had been neutral for 2 years. They were continplating which side they should take in the war. America finally decided to take Britian's side because they liked what Britian stood for. -
Sea Warfare
New ships were constantly being made. Some ships invented are submarines, camouflaged hulls, adn water borne aircraft carriers. Many soldiers were killed testing the new ships. -
the beginning
Roy Crowdy Avery joined the Bellevue Hospital unit. It was a long time before his unit was activated. In the mean time he figured out how to diagnose a patient withing 4-5 hours. -
Activiation
I guessed that his unit was activated in 1917. When he was activated he was sent on a ship. This ship was called Queen of the Seas. It was headed towards Paris. -
First Day
He has arrived in Paris with his unit. A barrage had began the first day he got there. He saw many people injured but luckily he wasn't. -
The Promotion
He was promoted to 1st lieutenant. He was very suprised that he was promoted. Roy still doesnt know why he was promoted. -
Front Lines
He was sent to the closest hospital to the front lines. It was about 3-4 miles from no mans land. He enjoyed working near the front lines. -
Aerial Warfare
Fighter planes began to drop bombs on the enemies. Aerial photography was used to see artillary. New planes were constantly being used and there wasn't any time to waste on testing them. -
Tochnology
Technology for the war advanced rapidly. They did anything to get the upper hand. At the end of the war auto rifles, tanks, chlorine gas, and many other things were invented -
Century later
World War 1 affects people today. People today are killed from bombs and mines that didn't explode. Their are special bomb disposal units made to find bombs from WW1.
