  • Revolution overthrows Austria-Hungarian Emperor

  • Germany officially unified

    Germany unified after the Franco-Prussian war after drawing the western german states into alliance with the North German Confederation.
  • Triple Alliance formed

    This was a secret agreement between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy.
  • Russo-Japanese War

    A war fought between Russia and Japan over Manchuria and Korea.
  • Triple Entente alliance formed

    Completed in 1905 with the addition of Russia to the Triple Entente.
  • Austria-Hungary annexed Bosnia

  • Unrestricted submarine warefare commences

    Germans started using submarines to sink ships.
  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand Assasination

    Franz Ferdinand,and his wife were assasinated by serbian nationalists. Sparking more tension between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, which eventually leads to the start of WWI.
  • Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia

  • Ottoman-German alliance formed

    In July of 1914, the Ottoman empire offered allegiance to the Germans, and they accepted the offer on August 2nd 1914.
  • Schlieffen plan put into action

    Created in December 1905, the execution of the plan led to Britain declaring war on Germany.
  • Japan declares war on Germany

    Japan sent an ultimatum to Germany demanding the removal of all German ships from their waters.
  • Battle of Marne

  • Lusiania sinks

    A German submarine sunk a passenger ship off the coast of Ireland, which was carrying 1,959 passengers and crew. 1,198 of those people drowned, including 128 Americans, which was one of the major reasons for the U.S entering the war.
  • Battle of Verdun

  • Vladimir Lenin seizes power in Russia

    Lenin seized power in Russia.
  • Zimmerman Telegraph found

    america intercepted a message from Germany to Mexico syaing when Germany won the war they would give Mexico all of their old territory back if they attacked the U.S.
  • Tsar Nicholas II abdicates

    During the February revolution NIcholas was forced to abdicate by the Petrograd insurgents.
  • U.S declares war on Germany

    The U.S. declares war on Germany.
  • Bolsheviks emerge as a political group

    Bolsheviks were members of theRussian Social-Democratic worker's party, which were led by Lenin. They seized control of the government in Russia and became the main political power.
  • Fourteen points proposed

    Presedent Wilson proposed the fourteen points, which acted as a blue print for the peace terms of WWI.
  • Russia signed treaty of brest-litovsk

    Russia recognized the independence of Ukraine, Latvia and Estonia to Germany and Austria-HUngary; and Ceded Kars,Ardahan and Batum to Turkey.
  • Battle of Somme

  • Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicates

    Wilhelm was forced to abdicate and spend the rest of his life in exile in the Netherlans.
  • Treaty of Versailles signed

    This ended the state of ware between Germany and the Allied Powers. It was signed exactly five years after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand.
  • Germany stops reparation payments to France

    Germany payed their final reparation payment for WWI.
  • Stalin takes over Russia

    After the death of Lenin, Stalin started eliminating the old political party.
