    Chinese Nationalists Oust the Last Qing emperor, Puyi
    Many groups wanted to nationalize and modernize in 1911 in China. One of those groups was Kuomintang, also known as the Nationalist Party. Sun Yixian was their first succesful leader and led the overthrowing of the Last Qing emperor, Puyi. The Qing had ruled China since 1644. Sun then became president of the Republic of China in 1912.

    Serbia wanted to absorb all the slavs in the Balkan Peninsula, but Austria-Hungary opposed. Austria-Hungary thought that having a slavic state would start a rebellion, so Austria annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina. Serbian leaders were mad and there was tension. The Austrian leader Ferdinand got shot by a man named Gavrilo Princip from Serbia. The Austrians were so made and gave Serbia demands but they rejected some, so Austria declared war on Serbia. Russia then mobilized into the Austrian border.

    Germany declared the Unrestricted Submarine Warfare where they announced they would sink any ship in the British waters without notice. One of the ships sinked was the British ship Lusitania, which had British and American passangers. Wilson, the president of the United States was upset and made Germany stop the Unrestricted Submarine Policy. Germany did stop for a while, but then they started it again. The Americans were very mad, but the next thing that Germany did made them join the war..

    The Americans found a telegram from Zimmeran, the leader of Germany, adressed to Mexico, stating that Germany would help Mexico reconquer the lands that they lost to the United States. When President Wilson of the United States saw this, he joined the allies side and declared war on Germany. The United states felt comfortable being on the allies side because they shared a language with the British.

    The Germans got a victory over the Russians, so they decided to invade France one last time. It was called the Second Battle of the Marne. During the battle, Germany got crushed and the Americans marched towards Germany. Kaizer Wilhelm II of Germany stepped down and the new government met with French commander Foch in a railway car in Paris. The Armistice was signed between the two ccountries and it was an agreement to stop fighting. On November 11, WWI ended.

    Ghandi leads Indian Campaign of Civil Disobedience
    Since the British weren't successful in punishing the people who started the Amristar massacre, Gandhi started the Civil Disobedience Campaign. The Congress Party started this campaign, which was , "the deliberate and public refusal to obe an unjust law and nonviolence as the means to acheieve independence." Gandhi started the campaign to make the British government's power and economic power over India weaker. Indians didn't purchase British goods, pay taxes, and boycotted cloth.

    Mustafa Kemal Transforms Turkey Into a Republic
    Mustafa Kamal represented the Turkish nationalists and led them in the fight against the Greeks and British. The nationalists now made the Ottoman sultan step out of power. Kemal then became president of the New Republic of Turkey. It was the first republic in southwest Asia. He modernized turkey and made reforms.

    Jiang made an army that surrounded the communists(Mao Zedong) in the mountains. The Communists thought that they were about to lose. 100,000 Communist forces fled and started the Long March, which was a 6,000 mile march. Many communists died from lack of food and cold. Then, Mao and 8,000 Communist survivors moved into caves in northwest china. More people followed them, but then Japan invaded China because the tension between the nationalists and communists increased.
