America declares war
At the capital building Wilson delivers his declaration of war to senators, representatives, ambassadors, members of the Supreme Court, and other guests. Wilson said, “The world must be made safe for democracy.” A few days afterwards Congress passed the resolution. -
Selective Service Act
When war was declared, America wasn't ready since only 200,000 men were in service. By the end of 1918, more that 24 million men had signed up and around 3 million were called to duty. Then, 2 million men American troops reached Europe. -
Russia surrenders
Due to the Russian Revolution, Russia had to surrender. They had to signed a treaty with the Central Powers. -
Austria-Hungary surrenders
Austria-Hungary surrendered to the Allies and on that same day, German sailors mutinied against their government. Other revolts followed as well. -
Germany signed a truce ending the Great War(Treaty of Versailles)
Germany finally surrenders after Austria-Hungary. The treaty was debated for about 6 moths before it was agreed on. The treaty was a punishment not a reconciliation. There were 9 new nations including Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia. The Central Powers must surrender colonies. The League of Nations approved it.
