The German Invasion of Poland
Shortly after Adolf Hitler came to power, he used the concept of appeasement to make other countries succumb to German demands, he invaded Poland as a "defensive" maneuver. The Western countries did not agree this was a good thing and declared war on Germany.

Rape of Nanking
The Rape of Nanking was a massacre that happened in the city of Nanjing by Japanese troops, an estimated 40,000 - 300,000 people were murdered. Shortly after the Imperial Japanese troops took over the city of Nanjing in China, they raped and looted the whole city over a six week period. This made the Japanese look bad and caused a bad outlook on the Imperial Japanese soldiers.

German Blitzkrieg
The Germans used a sort of attacking method called Blitzkrieg, where they would use a dense amount of armored vehicles and close air supports and quickly attack the front lines of the enemies, then encircle the enemy and close in on them. This worked very well as it disoriented the enemies because of the always changing fronts.

Fall of Paris
Also known as the Battle of France, was the german invasion of France during WWII. In six weeks the German forces defeated Allied forces and conquered France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Bringing Axis operations to the western front. Up to 360,000 were dead or wounded and 1,900,000 were captured. This gave Axis powers a lot of strength. -
Operation Barbarossa
Unternehmen Barbarossa was the code name for the Axis invason of the Soviet Union. According to the Germans ideology they would use Slavs as slave-labor force for the axis war effort. They also seized the oil reserves and agricultural resources of Soviet territories.

Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor is a naval base in Hawaii that was hit by a devastating surprise attack by Japanese planes. The Japanese planes bombed ships and planes as a preventative method to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet out of military actions that were planned in Southeast Asia. Japanese planes dropped bombs on huge ships full of stationed soldiers and some even flew their planes right into the ships. In total 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded.

Wannsee Conference
The meeting of senior officials of Nazi Germany and SS leaders. They discussed what to do with Jews in German occupied Europe and came up with "The Final Solution" which led to the murder of millions upon millons of Jews.

Bataan Death March
Imperial Japanese Soldiers relocated 60,000-80,000 Filipino and American prisoners ofw ar from Saysain Point, Bagac, Bataan and Mariveles to Camp O'Donnel, Capas, Tarlac, via San Fernando, Pampanga. The transfer was between 60 and 69.6 miles long and resulting in from 5,000 to 18,000 Filipino deaths and 500 to 650 American deaths.

Battle of Midway
A strategic naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II that lasted a few days. The US defeated an attacking fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy inflicting devastating damage on the Japanese fleet that would prove irreparable. Around 250 carrier-based aircraft of the Japanese were destroyed.

Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
the Act of Jewish Resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland, they opposed the Nazis effort to relocate them to Treblinka. When the ghetto refused to surrender SS-Brigadefuhrer Jurgen Stroop ordered the burning of the ghetto which killed a total of 13,000 Jews.

Liberation of Nazi Concentration Camps
The Allied troops began liberating found concentration camps used by the Nazis. The soviets found many camps and liberated them, including Majdanek and Auschwitz. There were many deaths in these camps and many prisoners died after the liberation due to malnutrition. The remaining SS officers were forced to make mass graves to put the bodies in.

D-Day
The largest seaborne invasion in history, the Allies invaded the German held beaches in a surprise attack that ended setting the forefront for the regain of Western Europe from Nazi control. Allies bombarded the beaches and rushed in to overrun the Nazis. The Nazis had weapons and bunkers set up on the beaches in case of this happening. It was a bloody battle but the Allies just kept rushing in. An estimated deaths of Germans was between 4,000-9,000 men. Allied casualties was around 10,000. -
Battle of Leyte Gulf
Generally considered to the be the biggest naval battle of World War II. The American and Australian forces fought against the Imperal Japanese Navy. The US troops invaded the island of Leyte as part of the strategy aimed at isolating Japan from countries it had occupied. The Allies lost this battle and lost many fleets.

Battle of the Bulge
Nazi Germanys last offensive during the war. They took the Allied troops by surprise when they attacked them. The American casualties were the highest at any point during the war. The Germans took advantage of the overcast weather and used minimal radio to plan the attack. They transported weapons during the night and planned it all in secrecy. The allies had no idea this attack was coming.

The Battle of Iwo Jima was a battle between the US and the Imperial Japanese Army. The US was trying to overrun the airfields. This battle comprised some of the bloodiest and fiercest fighting of the Pacific War in World War 2.

Battle of Okinawa
The Battle of Okinawa was a 82 day long fight, it was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The Allies were planning on using Okinawa as a base for air operations for the planned invasion of the Japanese home islands, since Okinawa was only 340 mi away from mainland Japan. The battle was named the "typhoon of steel" because the intensity of kamikaze attacks, and the ferocity of the fighting. Around 160,000+ people died. Link text -
VE Day
VE Day otherwise known as Victory in Europe Day is the public holiday celebrated to mark the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War 2 of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces. Many people celebrated this victory. -
The Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
After the victory against Germany, the Japans were still fighting the US. The US was warned that if they invade there would be heavy casualties. To end the war quickly they dropped one atom bomb on the city of Hiroshima killing 80,000 people immediately. Then dropped another on Nagasaki killing 40,000 more. This caused Japan to announce their surrender.

Victory of Japan Day is celebrated on September 2. It marks the day Imperial Japan surrendered in World War II, in effected ending World War II.
