Operation Gomorrah
British bombers raid Hamburg, Germany by night in Operation Gomorrah, while the Americans bomb it by day in "Blitz Week." Operation Gomorrah created one of the largest firestorms raised. This destroyed 16,000 apartment buildings and reduced the city to rubble.
