Death Of Hitler's Mother
Cause of death was cancer. The death of his mother effected him deeply and it is said that he possessed a photograph of her in his pocket when he was declared dead. Historical Significance: One of the major spark in Hitler's depression arose after the death of his mother. -
TURNING POINT 1: Hitler moves to Vienna
Hitler had moved to Vienna at the age of 17. His cause for moving was to attend art school, however, he had gotten rejected by the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts for the second time in October, his dream is shattered. He was hopeless, this was the main cause for his obliterating rage against anything so small such as correcting him in any subject. -
Hitler begins military service in World War I
Ignorance towards his army orders in 1909 because of his hatred to ward Austria led to a rejection from the Austrian army for being to weak to be able to join the army. Hitler joins Germany's army as the medical examinations were not very strict. Continuity and Change: HItler's arrogance and his state of deep depression was still present, he was a self made man. He did not like orders from others. -
Hitler is blinded by mustard gas.
At the time of the armistice, Hitler is lying in hospital suffering from temporary blindness due to a British gas attack in Ypres Salient. He returns to his regiment in Munich, later in the year. Historical Perspective: During the World War I, trench foot and blindness were common, mostly due to the living conditions of the soldiers and because of the use of mustard gas or harsh chemicals. -
TURNING POINT 2: Germany defeated in World War I
Historical Significance: Losing the World War I was a huge turning point for Hitler as he had served in the army and now had lost in the war. He felt humiliated by the loss. He was under deep depression during that time and was hungry for revenge as the Versailles treaty broke out. This is believed to be one of the main reasons for his cause to become a political leader. Hatred arose inside of him, his decisions was usually led by hatred towards the people who cost Germany the war. -

Adolf Hitler joins the tiny German Workers' party, the members of which share his own virulent anti-semitism Ethical Dimension: It is a very sick idea, to have such hatred against the Jews due to their religion. And a formation of group on such a belief is disgusting. -
Hitler is elected the leader of the new Nazi Party
After winning the election and becoming the leader of the new political party, nicknamed Nazi. Whereas the offical name of the party was National Socialist German Workers Party and its belief was that equality is only for Germans, not for jews or immigrants. Cause and Effect: By having to become a leader with lots of knowledge upon politics of small party was the one big spark that led to his dictatorship to take place. -
Hitler sentenced five years in prison for treason
The Nazis party make an unsuccessful attempt by trying to take over the German government and Hitler is sentenced to prison for five years for treason. During that time, he dictates his autobiography and book of political ideas, "Mein Kampf," to Rudolph Hess. Cause and Effect: “Beer Hall Putsch”–Nazi's first attempt at seizing the German government by force was immediately shut down. Imprisonment due to the forceful attempt by seizing the government is a reasonable punishment towards Hitler. -
The Jewish Holocaust begins
Led by Hitler, Nazis began to systematically eliminate Jews from Eastern Europe. Around six million Jews were killed, many in brutal concentration camps. Ethical Dimension: This is morally wrong and should not have been in action in the first place, I think the major cause for Germans to support Hitler's actions were due to the defeat in World War 1. It was a way of taking anger out of them through punishing the entire religion of Jews. -
TURNING POINT 3: Hitler becomes Germany's dictator
After being named chancellor of Germany in 1933, a presidential election is held in 1934 that Hitler easily wins, partially because he vows to fight communism. He is now firmly in power as dictator of Germany with the title of Fuhrer. Historical Significance: Becoming a political leader in Germany was a huge turning point for Hitler. His struggle described in the book “Mein Kamf” suggests that he only wanted to concentrate on Eastern Europe identifying Jews and Bolsheviks as the key culprits. -
Hitler declares war against the United States
Four days after Japan bombs Pearl Harbor, Hitler declares war against the U.S. Germany had no agreement with Japan, but Hitler likes the fact that he is now the center of World War II, the biggest war the world has ever seen. Historical Perspective: During the declaration, US was facing a very challenging time as not only were they facing the great depression, they were having an on-going battle against Japan when Germany joined in. -
Hitler survives an assassination attempt.
Hitler escapes serious injury when a bomb explodes at his headquarters in Berlin. It is the third assassination attempt against Hitler. A senior officer is blamed for planting the bomb. Historical Perspective: People were very fed up by his commands and his beliefs, they wanted their own opinions to be expressed but the only way to do it was by eliminating Hitler, their self-centred dictator. -
Hitler orders the destruction of the Germany's infrastructure
Hitler decides that since Germany has lost the war, the country does not deserve to survive. He orders the destruction of the railroads, highways, and other important features of German industry, but the order is not obeyed. Continuity and Change: These actions are only taken by a desperate, depressed and a self centered man. The loss in World War 2 is not a reasonable answer for destruction of infrastructure. -
Hitler Commits Suicide in Berlin
To avoid being captured by the soviet troops, Hitler commits suicide by shooting himself on the head while biting on a cyanide capsule.
