This was the battle that got Iwo Jima captured by the U.S. marine corps. It first started as an amphibious attack. There were aerial and naval forces to come later on. -

This was the last major battle of WW2. This was the bloodiest battle and it took place on Easter Sunday. There were over 100,000 Japanese casualties while there were only over 50,000 U.S. casualties. -

This marks the day that German troops laid down their arms. 13,000 POWs in Britain were released. The Russians took 2,000,000 prisoners before Germany surrendered. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
Harry S. Truman was warned that invading Japan would result in devastating U.U. casualties. An order was put in for new weapon strong enough to end the war fast. On this day, Enola Gay dropped 5-ton bomb on Hiroshima. -
V-J Day
Japan finally surrenders. It is still debated why they surrendered but most think its because of the devastation from the atomic bombs being dropped. This day is known as the last official end of WW2.
