A German U-boat torpedoed and sank it. There were more than 120 Americans on board, thus leading to the US entering the war. -

A secret diplomatic communication issued from the German foreign office. The US entered the war because this proposed an alliance of Mexico & Germany pitting against America. -
Fourteen Points
A statement of principles for peace that was to be used for peace negotiations in order to end WW1. The principles were outlined in a speech on war aims and peace terms to the United States Congress by President Wilson. -
Spanish Flu
Many people died from this very quickly, some people who felt well in the morning became sick by noon, and were dead by nightfall. Those who did not succumb to the disease within the first few days often died of complications from the flu caused by bacteria. The causes of death are still unknown. It killed approximately 20-50 million people worldwide. -
Espionage and Sedition Act
It targeted socialists and labor leaders. It violated the 1st amendment because it prohibited many forms of speech. Schenck v. US court case determined that the US 1st amendment could be restricted if the words spoken/printed represented to society a clear & present danger. -
Treaty of Versailles
This is the treaty signed by all countries involved in the war that ended world war 1. Germany had to pay to repair all damages of the war as the reparations. -
Women
The 19th amendment granted woman the right to vote. During the war, women often worked in factories and as nurses.
