    Japanese Invasion of China
    The Japanese Invasion of China, also called the Sino-Japanese War, broke out when China began resisting against the Japanese Expansion into China. The Map shows the land that Japan took over. Ende on September 9, 1945.
  • Rape of Nanking

    Rape of Nanking
    The Rape of Nanking, or Nanking Massacre, took place in a China city called Nanking. Japanese Imperial Forces killed over 100,000 people, all men, women, children, and soldiers.

  • German Blitzkrieg

    German Blitzkrieg
    The definition of a Blitkrieg is, "An intense military campaign intended to bring about a swift victory." It was used to disorient another army and scatter them so it was easier to invade the area. Germany first used this tactic on Poland on September 1, 1939. They later used this tactic in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France in 1940.

    Operation Barbarossa
    Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union. The German Army consisted of 3 million soldiers and 3 thousand tanks covereing over 2000 miles from the Black Sea to the North Cape.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, an american naval base in the Pacific Ocean. The Japanese had planned to take over a select peice of land and negotiate an armistance with the U.S.
  • Wannsee Conference

    Wannsee Conference
    15 high ranking Nazi officers met in the usburbs of Wannsee. This meeting was to discuss what the were to do about the Jews. This was called, "Final Solution of the Jewish Question." The Final Solution of the Jewish Question was just basically how they planned to annilhate the Jewish.
  • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    Because of the surrender of the Bataan Peninsula to the Japanese, 75,000 Filipino and American soldiers had to walk a 65-mile trek to prison camps. The trek was long and the intese heat with little to no food and water killed thousands of the prisoners.
  • Battle of Midway

    This Battle took place because of excpetional code breaking. The Japanese had planned to attack the US, but the US was able to surprise attack some of the few remaining Japanese Aircraft Carriers.

    The Battle of Stalingrad was the defence of the city of Stalingrad in the USSR agaisnt the Germans. The winning of this battle resulted in the turning point of the war in favor of the Allies.
  • Operation Gomorrah

    Operation Gomorrah
    Operation Gomorrah was a military campign set on bombing other territories during the European Theater. The orders were signed on May 27, 1943, but didnt start until July 24, 1943. Bombing stopped on August 3, 1943.
  • D-Day (Normandy Beach Invasion)

    D-Day resulted in the liberation of Western Europe from the Nazi's. Roughly 156,000 Bristish, Canadian, and Americans stormed a 50-miles, or 5 beaches.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Germans gathered about 250,000 men just south of the Hurtgen Forrest. They had been planning on surprise attacking the Americans. In 3 days they had taken out all American 28th and 106th divisions. British sent to aerial attack divisions and eventually drove back all germans.
  • Operation Thunderclap

    Operation Thunderclap was meant to destroy transportation in the Eastern cities of Germany. They also wanted to send a message to German citizens, saying that the air defences of the Nazis were of little supiority.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The Battle of Iwo Jima took place out of the need for base near Japan. The battle lasted for a month, while Japanese soldiers hid underground and in holes, Americans eventually won and took over the island.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    The Battle of Okinawa, also known as Operation Iceberg, was the largest amphibian lannidng of the Pacific Theater. The casualties resulted in over 150,000. 100,000 being Japanese and 50,000 being American.
  • VE Day

    VE Day
    On May 8, 1945, Great Britain and the United States celebrate victory. They put out flags and banners to celebrate.
  • Potsdam Declaration

    Potsdam Declaration
    The Potsdam Declaration is a document calling for the surrender of Japan and all arms.
  • Dropping of the Atomic Bombs

    Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
    The United States was the only country to use Atomic Weapons during wartimes. They used them on Japan long after the war against the Nazis had ended. President Truman had been told that if he tried to invade Japan that we would have suffered many casulties, so he ordered the use of the Atomic Bomb.

    Japan, six months after the end of WWII and continued hostilities between U.S, surrender unconditionally. On board the USS Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay.
