    Japan invaded China, because they had many resources for everything, especially oil. They wanted to secure control of China by defeating their internal enemies first. Many thousands of Chinese were killed in the indiscriminate bombing of cities by the Japanese air force, and started a guerrilla war. 10 to 20 million Chinese people died because of the invasion.

    Source The Rape of Nanking took place in December of 1937, when the Japanese army marched into Nanking, which is located in China, and killed 300,000 out of 600,000 people. The Japanese men were disgusting and they raped many women and killed a lot of pregant women as well. "Pregnant women were not spared. In several instances, they were raped, then had their bellies slit open and the fetuses torn out."

    Source The Ribbentrop/Molotov pact was also known as the Hitler-Stalin Pact. It was basically a pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, a non-aggression act. When they signed this agreement, it was stated that Germany had protected itself from having to fight a two-front war in the soon-to-be World War IIand the Soviet Union was awarded land, which included parts of Poland and the Baltic States.

    Source Blitzkrieg is German for "lightning war". It was a military tactic used by the Germans, that required very effective and offensive weapons, such as tanks, planes, and artillery. Germany used this tactic against Poland, Denmark, Norway, Luxembourg, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Yugoslavia, and Greece. The Blitzkrieg was a success, and gave Germany and higher power and status.

After this attack occured, President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan, Germany and Italy declared war on United States, and that's when the U.S. joined World War II.

    Wannsee Conference and the "Final Solution" It was a conference that took place in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee. It was a conference to discuss of what they called "Final Solution of the Jewish Question." The "Final Solution" was a code name for the physcial annihilation of the European Jews. Heydrich was the main guy in this conference, and basically called all the shots and the plans they had to annihilate the Jews. The basic goal of this conference was to further the coordination of a policy aimed at the annihilation of the Jews.

    Source Bataan Death March began when the Japanese assembled 78,000 prisoners. It was a very hard and conflicting march to Camp O' Donnell, which was north of the peninsula. The soldiers would beat up the prisoners, and that's why most of them died. Some would just kill themselves to end the pain, or continue walking to relieve themselves. they had no food or water, and they began to feel very fatigue and weak.

Operation Gomorrah proved devastating to Hamburg, because at the end of this raid, more than 30,000 people were killed.
