Japanese invasion of China
Japan invades China on there borders. China asks help from several countries and most countries agreed that Japan was beginning to become a threat on the eastern hemisphere. Italy, Germany, Britain, France, and the US all sent help but Germany then later became allies with Japan seeking more support. Japan was in dire need of expansion and resources. The military took action and went and took over some of China's ports and industries. This led to a war that would start before WWII. -
Rape of Nanking
Wanting most of the resources China has Japan attacks and goes and destroys Nanking. The Japanes Imperial Army goes and brutally kills and rapes innocent people in China. About 20,000 to 80,000 women were sexually assaulted. It was a horrific time for China and it took decades for Nanking to recover from the savage attacks. -

Germany's invasion of Poland
Germany invaded Poland from land and air in hopes of taking over and regain lost territory. Adolf Hitler breaks all of the treaties to help expand Germany and bring it back to its former glory. Poland tries to fight back on horseback but it was no where near the forces of Germany with its new mechanized machinery and artillery. The Polish could not stand a chance, with bad strategies and horrible defenses, they lost quickly and Germany took control in no time. -
Germany invades Denmark and Norway
March 1st was the date that Adolf Hitler oficially set out the plan for Weserübung ( April 9, 1940), code name for the invasion that was going to be held in Denmark and Norway by the Geman army. Hitler's interest wass mainly upon Norway, for it offered great control of the coastlines, this meant if Germany woon the battle they would hold partial control of the North Sea. Norweigan cities surrendered & Denmark lost the battle in less than 6 hours, for the German troops were too strong. -
Opertaion Barbarossa
Hitler sets out his German army to secretly attack the Soviet Union. Over 3 million German soldiers were set out to cover over 2 thousand miles of Russia. Operation Barbarossa was is known to be the larget military attack of World War 2. Although the German army was very powerful the tough wether conditions Russia brougth caused Operation Barbarossa to fail. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan sent out a surprise tornado attack on the United States Naval base in Hawaii (Pearl Harbor). The 22,000 acre naval base was completely destroyed after Japan's secret tornado attack. The morning of the attack America went into World War 2. During the battle the United states had a great loss of weapons including, 170 aiircrafts and 18 battle ships. -
Wannsee Conference
The Wannsee Confrence was where the "Final Solution", so it was called, was going to be decided. The two main occupants durinig the confrence were Adolf Eichmann and Reinhard Heydrick. This confrence was held to make some sort of arrangement for Jews but the confrence turned into othe openning for the settled agreement of the Holocaust. -
Battle of Midway
It was on this day on which Japan's view of being imune to air attack was completely wrong. The U.S. sent thier strongest aircrafts to attack Japan, they coudlnt quiet defeat them with one shot. Japan tried to figth back and put in aircrafts, 11 battleships, 13 cruisers, submarines, etc. The U.S. needed to show revenge on Japan for thie rattack ( 6 monts back) on Pearl Hrabor. The United States ended winnig the Battle of Midway. -
Bataan Death March
The U.S. had surrendered the Bataan Peninsula to Japa, which casued a march to go on including 75,000 Filipino nativs and Aerican troop. This 65-mile march would lead the American troop and Filipino natives to prison camps. This brutal march was held in extremely harsh conditions had caused thousands of troops and Filipinos to die. The American troops assured that once gaining control of the situation they would set judgement on Lieutenant Homma Masaharu (General of the Japanese troops). -
Operation Gomorrah
On this day the Brittish army drastically bombed Hamburg, Germany by night. The United States also took part of this attack by bombing Hamburg by day. The reason for the Britts bombing Hamburg was because Germnay had previously bombed Britain and suffered 167 deaths of their civilians. In just a few hours Britain dropped 2,300 tons & won this attack. -
Allied invasion of Italy
Benito Mussolini, the Italian dictator of that time, wanted to turn Italy into a Roman Empire. Their Axis partner, Germany repelled out of this idea and decided to rebel. German troops arived in Scicily, Italy on the morning of that day. It took three days for 150,000 German troop to be a shore on the island. The attack began, it continued for years until dictator Mussolini was executed and German troops surrendered and left Italy. -
D-Day (Normandy Invasion)
The battle of Normandy (aslso known as D-Day lasted for about 2 months. This battle resuted as an allied liberation of Wester Europe form the control of the Nazi's in Germany . The Batte of Normandy or as it was code namded Operation Overload began on Juen 6 with 156,000 Brittish, American and Canadian troops. The 156,000 troop landed on a stretch of 50 miles in the Normandy region. D-Day is known as the most amphibious attack in history. -
Battle of the Bulge
After the allied succession of the battle of Normandy it was thought that the war was over. This was changed the day that Adolf Hitler sent out the German army to break apart the allied forces and turn the war into his favor. The courage and fortitude of the American soldier was tested against its diversity. The automatic response of the soldier meant victory of freedom over tyranny. -
Operation Thunderclap
During the early 1945 the "allies'" decided to set out a plan and bomb Berlin adn many other cities in conjuction with the Soviet advance. Railway yards ner the center of Dresden had been bombed twice before the night of the 13th.During the first attck they dropped 1,478 tons of high explsives and 1,182 tons of bombs. On the second attach the USSAF dropped more than 1,800 tosn of bombs. Resent updates in the lives lost on that bombing range from 25,000-35,000. -
Battle of Iwo JIma
It was on this date that the American army decided to mkae their first strike on the Japanese Home Islands at Iwo Jima. Th eAmerican troops both attacked by air and land. Alhtough it seemed like a very stratigical plan it failed and caused 5,900 deaths and 17,400 wounded. -
Battle of Okinawa
The last and biggest Pacific Island battle was the Okinawa campaign. It was 287,000 American troops against 130,000 Japanese troops. Thsi battle was considered very deadly adn it did not take much time. By the end of the 82 days the Japanese army lost and had a equivalent of 14,000 deaths. -
VE Day
On this day Great Breitain and the United States celebrated their victory in Europe. Cities in both nations put out banners and flags that symbolized the defeat of the Nazi War Machine. All German troops finally laid down all weapons and surrendered. Germany lost more than eight thousand soldiers. The main concern of why German soldiers gave up was becuase of thier fear of being imprisoned by the Soviet Union. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs
The United States became the only adn first to use any sort of atomic weaponon Hiroshima Japan. It is said that even though this bombing marked the ending of WW2 it also marked the start for the Cold War. The U.S. started building atomic bombs in 1940 and was warned by Einstein that Germany was also in the process of doing so. Even though both countries were doing this the U.S was succesful and blasted close to 15,000 tons of TNT. This automatically kiled 80,000 people in Hiroshma Japan. -
VJ Day
Japan announnced their surrender to the Allies which affectively caused the end of World War 2. This also has a different date when Japan surrendered aboard the U.S.S Missouri which anchored in Tokyo Bay.
