America needed a base near Japanese coast. Iwo Jima was defeated. This took a month a month of fiighting, but America won. -

Japanese navy and army mounted mass air attacks by planes on one way suicide missions. Japan also sent out big battleship, the Yamato, on similsr missions. Allies suffered more than 65,000 casualties including 14,000 dead. -

Great Britain and the United States celebated victory in Europe by having flags and banners in the defeat of the Nazi. Germans surrenderd to Soviet antagonist after they had lost 8,000 soldiers and the Germans consiterbaly more. -

A American B-29 bomber dropped the worlds first developed atomic bomb over Japanese City of Hiroshima. The explosion whiped out 90% of the city killing 80,000 people and thounds more due to radiation . The second bomb dropped three days later on N agasaki killing about 40,000 people. -
VJ Dropping
Japan surrenderd to the Allies. The formal surrender took place abourd the U.S.S Missouri anchored in Tokyo bay. The war ended because Japan quit.
