    The National Socialist German Workers' Part, known as Nazi Party, was led by Adolf Hitler since 1921 and gained power on 30 January, 1933 in Germany. As the German workers party, the group promoted German pride and anti-Semitism, and expressed dissatisfaction with the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, the 1919 peace settlement that ended World War I (1914-1918) and required Germany to make numerous concessions and reparations.

    The battle of Britain
    After Germany took France, and because Winston Churchill refused to consider an armistice, Hitler planned the Operation Sea Lion- the operation of the invasion of Britain.The first step of the plan was to bomb some cities in Britain, but it was not going well- over 3000 Nazi planes were shot down by the Royal Air Force, and 25% of the pilots in the RAF were Canadians. Then, in October, Germany gave up to invade Britain.

    In 1924, the Canadian Air Force which was established in 1920, was granted the royal title, becoming the Royal Canadian Air Force (RACF) and evolving into more of a military organization from the CAF.During the Second World War the RCAF was involved in operations in Britain, Europe, southern Asia, and with home defence. In 1945, the RACF became the 4th largest air force in the world.

    The battle of Pearl Harbour
    In December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbour- one of the biggest American naval base in the WW2. In only 1 hour and 50 minutes, 2,403 Americans were killed, 1,178 others were wounded, 4 battleships were sunk, and 188 aircraft were destroyed. Americans were angry with this contemptible action, and they changed their mind and agreed to join in the WW2.
  • The battle of Hong Kong

    The battle of Hong Kong
    When the same time of the attack on Pearl Habour, Japan also attacked Hong Kong. There were only around 10,000 soldiers from Britain and Canada to defeat Japanese with better weapon, planes and ships. But they still held Hong Kong for 3 weeks until they couldn't fight anymore. This was one of a few Canadian defeats in WW2 with 557 dead and 500 wounded in total.

    During the WW2, American did not agree to trade oil with Japan and they cut the Japan's oil providing line, so Japan hadn't enough oil to maintain the war. For solving this problem, Japanese decided to beat America first while they were attacking almost all of East-Asia. Soon, Japan paid for it's confidence.

    Pacific WarAfter Japan attacked Pearl Harbour, Americans changed their mind and decided to join in the war. Because Japan had already been in trouble with resources, and America had lots of resources including oil, Japan couldn't offer the consumption of war. Even though it was winning in the Pacific, America still was holding Pacific because they could repair their ships quickly. Then, on August 14, 1945, after America dropped two atomic bombs, Japan finally surrendered.

    The battle of Dieppe
    Dieppe Raid, also known as the battle of Dieppe, this is a short raid from the allies to a Germany controlled French town called Dieppe. On August 19, 1942, 5,000 Canadians, 1,000 British, and 50 American soldiers landed in Dieppe. This raid wasn't going well, and it was the worst defeat with 900 dead, 1,000 wounded and 1,900 Canadians ware caught. But two years later, in Normandy, Juno Beach, Canadians let German pay for this battle.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    Normandy Landing, known as Day of Deliverance(D-Day), lasted from June 1944 to August 1944. It resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. The Allied soldiers from three main countries(Canada, America and Britain) were landing to five beaches in Normandy. And Canadian part, Juno Beach, was the most successful part but there were still 335 soldiers dead and 735 wounded. Futhermore, more than 2,500 soliders dead in the first day on the most bloody battle field- Omaha Beach.
  • Atomic Bombs

    Atomic Bombs
    For Japan refused to surrender, on August 6, 1945, the U.S.A. dropped a new weapon- Little Boy on the city of Hiroshima. Three days latter, without the response from Japan, America dropped Fat Man on the city of Nagasaki. Those two atomic bombs killed at least 129,000 people, forced Japan to surrender and ended the whole World War II.
