Japan began to attack Chinese troops in Manchuria. The Japanese wanted the raw materials that were available in Manchuria. China became an ally of the western nations in fighting and defeating Japan. -

On July 17,1942 attacked the city of Stalingrad. The Russians and Germans lost over 2 million lives. The Sovit's helped off the German advance and it was the turning point in the Eastern front. -

On July 24,1943 the Royal Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Force began serval days of bombing runs on Hamburg,Germany. The Allies wanted to show that they could inflick damage on Germany. It was the first joint exercise between the RAF and the U.S.Army Force. -

On April 1, 1945 the tenth army took two and a half months to control the island. The Japanese used kamikaz tactics. Okinawa was going to be a vital air base for the invasion of Japan. -
V E Day
On May 8,1945 the German's surrendered. the Allies had over-run Western Germany and the Russian's had done the same in the East. Fighting in Europe was over. -
Potsdam Declaration
On July 26, 1945 the Potsdam Declarartion set the terms for the Japanese to surrender. There were 13 topics in the declaration. USSR, U.S.,and Great Britain each had there own agenda's, whicj led to the Cold War. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
On August 6,1945 the U.S. dropped the first atomc bomb on Hiroshima. The Japanese refused to surrender, so on August 9, U.S. dropped the second bomb on Nagasaki. U.S. was trying to save U.S. living by not invading Japan. On August 14,1945 Japan surrendered. -
V J Day
On Agust 14, 1945 Japan had surrendered unconditionally to the Allies. After the second atomic bomb, the Japanese realized they couldn't win. The was in the Pacfic had ended.
