  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    The Battle of Britain took place during the summer and fall of 1940. British and German air forces clashed in the United Kingdom skies and launched the biggest bombing campaign to that date.The British rescued 300,000 British and French soldiers. They did not surrender and won the war because they had the fastest and lastest aircraft technology. The Germans failed to gain air superiority.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barabarossa occured on Sunday at 3:00 AM. Germany invaded Russia using three army groups and over 3,000,000 soldiers. This all started when the Soviet Union invaded Romainia. Hitler saw this as a threat to the balkanb oil supply and then posed a counter threat to Russia. In the end, this operation failed. The germans could not defeat the Soviet Union because they did not have as many materials.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On December 7, 1941 at 7:55 AM in Oahu, Hawaii the Japanese navy bombed the United States port of Pearl Harbor. Two waves of Japanese planes attacked from the east and west. The Japaneses' plan was to take out the majority of the United States Navy. The United States took action. They declared war on Japan and entered WWII.
  • Bataan Death March

    The Japanese marched about 72,000 American and Filipino prisoners 63 miles in the Bataan Peninsula which is in the Philipines. There were 7,000- 10,000 deaths. The Japanese did this because they did not respect the Americans. The Japanese commander in chief (General Homma) was put on trial and executed in the Philipines on April 3, 1946.
  • Operation Overload

    Operation Overload was the code name for the Battle of Normandy which started on June 6, 1944 at 6:30 AM. General Dwight Eisenhower directed D-Day forces invaded Normandy, France. Over 150,000 soldiers fought the Germans for two months in hopes of taking them out of France.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Hitler plans to lanch three attacks in Ardennes, France, in hopes to break the Allies alliance. Approximately, the United States lost 81,000 soldiers while Germany lost 100,000 soldiers. The Allies won.
  • Yalta Conference

    From February 4-11, the United States President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchhill, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin had a conference at a Russian resort to discuss the future of Germany, Eastern Europe, and the United Nations. They wanted to divide Germany and Berlin into four zones. The outcome in the Yalta Conference resulted in in the forming of the United Nations. Later on after Germany was defeated, Britain went into war with Japan.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Starting on February 19, 1945 the United States captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Japnese Empire. The United States captured Iwo Jima because it is one of the Japaneses' strongest islands, and could be used as an air base. In the end, the Unites States Marines gained complete control of Iwo Jima.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day marked the day that the Germans surrendered in Europe. The Allies had officially gained control of Europe. This also marked the end of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich
  • Dropping the Atomic Bomb

    After the tragedy that happened in Pearl Harbor, the United States fought back by dropping two atomic bombs in the Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bomb dropped from the Enola Gay on Hiroshima was known as "Little Boy" Three days later when the second bomb was droped on Nagasaki, it was called "Fat Boy." The Allies gained another victory.
  • V-J Day

    V-J is the day that the Japanese surrendered from the United States. The two bombs that were dropped in Japan had a very strong impact on the people living there. V-J Day was celebrated all around the world!
