    Peaceful protestors were protesting in St. Petersburg when a group of soldiers came and fired at them. This caused disruption and it turned many citizens against the government and Czar. This event would led to the start of the Russian Revolution and was used to justify the attacks of the movement.

    Czar Nicholas II created a document which ended the Revolutions in Russia (for a little while). The document guaranteed new rights for Russians!! That included freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of association. The manifesto also stated that laws couldn't be passed without being verified by the Russian assembly.

    During this time the Balkans were known as the "powder keg" of Europe, and this was because of the different cultures and religions in the area.So when Austria-Hungary(a major country), took control of these smaller nations, they felt some type of way!The Balkans were already going through it (mini battles), and now it was even worse.They had NO independence and would be controlled over. You could see why this would led to conflicts

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the ruler of Austria-Hungary during this time, and as we know they ruled smaller contrasting nations. Gavrillo Princip, a Serbian nationalist, assassinated Ferdinand and his wife at their stopped streetcar! This would ultimatley increase the tension between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, not only that, but it would be the starter of the War!

    Only a month after the assassination, Austria-Hungary (a major power) declares war on Serbia (small nation)!! Since countries had treaty agreements with others, whenever someone was in trouble they had to help! This is what led to many countries joining the War. Germany agreed to support Austria-Hungary, Russia was against Germany and Austra-Hungary.

    The February Revolutions resulted in the abdication of czar Nicholas II. People were rioting and protesting for his removal, they didn't like his ideas and the fact that he did nothing for the country! This revolution created new social political groups and new leaders in the provisional government.

    It was enough, after numerous events germany caused on us, we decided it was enough! Woodraw Wilson wanted to do this, and since we were now involved, it would be a hard and stressful effort! The picture I choose depicts Germany as the gorilla, and their holding the lady liberty. This shows that Germany was taking control of any and everything, and Americans were supporting the enlistment of soldiers, so they could defeat the enemy.

    Lenin returns to Russia from exile. Vladimir Lenin wasthe leader of the Bolshevik Party, and he returns to Petrograd (St. Petersburg) after 10 years of being captured to revive the Russian Revolution and keep protesting!

    This revolution resulted in the Bolsheviks siezing power from the Provisional Government. Lenin became the head of the comminist state and since he took power it led to new communist practices, such as the confiscation of lands and the establishment of a political monopoly.

    The Winter Palace is where the rulers of Russia lived, and during this time it was Czar Nicholas II. Riots of people stormed the castle, marking an end to the centuries of rulings. After Nicholas was abdicated, the Winter Palace still stood as a symbol of royal power. The takeover showed how strong the communist revolutionaries were and how resistful the Bolesheviks were.

    The Brest-Litvosk treaty marked the removal of Russia from WWI. There was so much going on in Russia during this time and they felt they couln't be fighting in a war too!! The treaty was signed by Lenin, he agreed to people that he would finally bring peace to Russia, so everyone thought this was a good thing for Russia. Because of the treaty Russia had to give up most of their Western territory.

    The Treaty of Versailles was the offical peace treaty ending the war, and giving blame to Germany! Germany was defeated in all sectors, they lost the war, had to pay large reperations, lost their military, and lost some land. With these large demands it would soon cause WWII, but for now Germany was suffering!

    The Soviet Union was created on December 30, 1922 by Vladimer Lenin, and its roots stemmed from the Russian Revolution! The Bolsheviks overthrew the Provisional Government which replaced Czar Nicholas II. Since there wasn't a leader, Lenin decided to take matters in his own hands! He developed a state of communism and became the leader, considering a lot of Russians liked him!
