  • Ford Motor Company Formed

    Ford Motor Company Formed
    Henry Ford is the founder of Ford Motor Company. the s one of the largest and most profitable car companies in the world. It was one of the few car companies to survive the Great Depression. Ford developed the assembly line technique which helped mass production of his cars. He also recognized the success of treating his workers well and he paid them more than ay other car company at the time. He was a successful business man and entrepreneur.
  • Great Migration Time Frame

    From 1910 to 1940 many African Americans moved from the South to the North because the North had more jobs and opportunities. They also wanted to get away from the Jim Crow beliefs in the South. This lasted about 30 years.
  • Sinking of the Titanic

    Sinking of the Titanic
    The Titanic was to sail on her first, maiden voyage. it was described as a luxurious floating hotel that was unsinkable. 1500 passengers and crew died. The structure of the hull, limited water tight compartments, and not enough lifeboats were reasons that so many died. Interestingly, Milton S. Hershey bought himself a ticket for $300 on the Titanic. He changed his plans and did not use the ticket.

    Woodrow Wilson was the 28th president and served two terms from 1913 to 1921. He was a Democrat.

  • Lusitania

    The RMS Lusitania was punk by a German U-boat 11 miles off the coast of Ireland. It proceeded the United States declaring it was entering into WWI against Germany
  • Rankin - First woman elected to Congress

    Rankin was the first woman elected to Congress. She was a representative elected to Montana in 1916 and again in 1940.
  • Lenin Led the Russian Revolution

    Vladimir Lenin was the founder of the Russian Communist Party and leader of the Bolshevik Revolution. The Russian Revolution was a pair of revolutions in which tzars autocracy was destroyed.
  • Zimmerman telegram

    Zimmerman telegram
    One of the reason WWI started was because of the Zimmerman telegram. This was a top secret, coded message, sent by the German Foreign Minister - Arthur Zimmerman - to his country's diplomats in Mexico. The telegram was an attempt to pull Mexico into WWI should the US join forces with the Allies. Once it was intercepted and decoded, it revealed a promise by Germany to Mexico that Germany would help them recover the land they lost to the US during the Mexican-American War.
  • Selective Service Act

    Also known as the selective draft act, it gave the US government the power to raise an army for WWI and use conscription or draft members into the military.
  • Espionage Act

    Shortly after US entered WWI, this act tried to prohibit the interference with military operations or recruitment or any kind of insubordinate acts toward the US military.
  • Influenza Epidemic

    the Influenza (flu) epidemic was one of the deadliest outbreaks of disease in recorded history. 500 million or about 1/3 of the world's population was infected.
  • Wilson's 14 Points

    These principles outlined Jan, 8, 1918 in a speech are a statement of principles for peace and peace negotiations to end WWI.
  • Daylight Savings

    Daylight Savings
    Benjamin Franklin suggested this idea of putting clocks forward in Spring and back in Autumn in a letter to the Journal of Paris in 1784. It didn't catch on until Germany around 1918 had a coal shortage and they needed extra hour of daylight in the evening. This was adopted in Germany and the idea spread to other countries and the US adopted Daylight Savings on March 31, 1918.
  • Sedition Act

    It was an act of Congress that extended the Espionage Act to cove broader range of offenses such as speech or expression of opinion against WWI and the US government.
  • Schenk v. US

    This was a landmark US Supreme Court case about the Espionage Act. During WWI the defendants in the case were distributing flyers to draft age men urging them to resist going into the army. The court upheld Schenk's conviction saying the Espionage Act did not violate the First Amendment.
  • US Senate rejects Treaty of Versailles

    This treaty was one of most important of peace treaties that ended WWI. It ended a site of war between Germany and the Allies. The US rejected it based on objections to the League of Nations.
  • 19th Ammendent

    The amendment was added to the constitution in 1920 and it gave women the right to vote!
  • Tea Pot Dome Scandal

    This was a bribery scandal involving President Warren G. Harding where his Secretary of the Interior leased Navy Petroleum reserves at Teapot Dome in Wyoming to private oil companies at low rates without competitive bidding.

    Time magazine is a weekly magazine subscription that was published in March 1923. It was originally run by Henry Luce in New York City.

    Mickey Mouse Created
    Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney in 1928 and is one of the most recognizable characters in the world, as well as the mascot of Disney. He was originally named Mortimer, but Disney's wife Lillian thought that this name was too pompous and suggested Mickey. Walt Disney brought joy to many though his creations. He overcame dyslexia and was interested in art, drawing and photography from a young age.
