  • Franco-Prussian War

    This war lasted from 1870-1871 which had a bad defeat for France. The Franco-Prussian War led to the creation of the German Empire.

  • Russo-Japanese War

    Russo-Japanese War
    The Japanese defeated the Russians which caused the Russians to lose almost all of the Baltic and Pacific fleet. This defeat led to the Russian Revolution of 1905.

  • Entente Cordiale

    Britain entered into an alliance with France. In 1907, Britain also entered and alliance with Russia who was already in an alliance with France. These alliances became known as the Triple Entente.

  • Moroccan Crisis

    The Tangler Crisis and the Agadir Crisis were provoked by the Germans to try and cause tensions between France and Britain that just made an alliance.

  • Bosnian Annexation Crisis

    Bosnian Annexation Crisis
    Austria-Hungary decided to annex Bosnia and Herzegovina that was occupied by the Dual Monarchy since 1878 which was opposed by Serbia.

  • Italo-Turkish War

    This war took place between 1911 and 1912 which was not a huge threat to Europe. The Turkish defeat exposed the weakness of the Ottoman Army.

  • Balkan Wars

    Serbia, Greece, Montenegro, and Bulgaria formed the Balkan League. The Balkan League was a military alliance against the Ottoman Empire.

  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria

    A group from the Mlada Bosna assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The assassination triggered the events leading up to WWI.

  • July Ultimatum

    July Ultimatum
    Austria-Hungary presented Serbia with an ultimatum. Vienna didn't like this idea so Vienna gave Serbia the demands in order to to be able to declare war on the neighbors for the assassination of Archduke. A couple of days later, Austro-Hungarian troops stormed in and started WWI.

  • The battle of the Frontiers begins

    A series of battles was fought along the Eastern frontier of France and in Southern Belgium after the outbreak of WWI.

  • Russia invades East Prussia

    This invasion was an attempt to help the German armed forces focus on the Eastern front. Despite what happened, the Russian armies were defeated in the battles of Tannenberg and the Masurian Lakes.

  • First Battle of Aisne begins

    This battle was the allied offense against the German First Army and the Second Army. The battle of the Battle of the Marne and the Battle of the Aisne were the advances to the Aisne.

  • First Battle of Ypres

    The battle of Ypres was fought on the Western Front around Ypres Belgium. This battle was fought from Arras in France.

  • Battle of the Falkland Islands

    The battle was a British naval victory over the Imperial Germany Navy. After the defeat, the British sent a large force to destroy the Germans.

  • First German air raid on Britain

    Civilians living in the area were to suffer the terror of the air raid.
