Rape of Nanking
Japanese General Matsui Iwane ordered Nanking to be destroyed. The Japs burned most of it and killed 150k male ciillians and 50K more. 20,000 females were raped. The reason why it happened was because the Japs wanted to break the CHinese resistance.

German Blitzkrieg
A German Blitzkrieg was short and violent. German Blitzkriegs were offensive and used tanks, planes, and also artillery. Germany wanted to use these attacks becuse they didn't want a long war. The German Blitzkieg on battles against Poland, Denmark, Norway, and France.

Pearl Harbor
On this day many japanese planes bombed a naval base at Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese bombed 20 naval vessels and destroyed them. During this time U.S. placed an embargo on Japan. Then the U.S. and other countries froze Japanese assets which prevented japan from buying oil. Pearl HArbor had great effects, destroyed almost all of our battleships and killed over 2,000 people and also destroyed many of our planes.

Wannsee Conference
Government officials and 15 nazi members met up. They discussed the "Final Solution" for the Jews. They wanted to kill the Jews basically an exterminate them. The effect was the mass murder of many jews and sending them to concentration camps.
They thought of this plan because they thought that jews were the problem.

Bataan Death March
Americans and Fillipino in Bataan were forced to marched to prison camps. The effect killed many because of intense heat and harsh conditions. They did this to keep prisoners.

Operatoin Barbossa

Battle of Stalingrad
A battle at Stalingrad happened. This was one of he bloodiest battles. Germany went into Stalingrad and got covered by the Soviets. Germans launched this attack because they could go to the Volga River and launch more atttacks. Russians eneded up winning. Germans surrendered, too cold no food or supplies.

D- Day
During the Normandy Invasion American, British, and Canadian forces landed on beaches near Normandy. D-Day hapened because the Allied Powers wanted to liberate Europe from Nazi control. D-Day was effective, it was a success and it pushed the Nazi's out of Normandy.

Battle of the Bulge
Nazi's wanted to push the Allied powers to Northwestern, Belgium. Germans had 250k in there, against 80k Americans. There was thick fog so the Americans couldn't see the Nazi's positioning themselves. This was very effetive, the result was the Americans retreated.

Battle of Iwo Jima
America needed a base so they invaded Iwo Jima. This battle took over a month long. The Japs used caves, dugouts, tunnels, and underground installations to attack the Americans. The reason why America needed this base was because of B-29 planes could land and for fighters.

Dropping of the atomic boms
On this day a B-29 dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. We wanted Japan to surrender so that's why we dropped it. Japan ended up surrendering. Around 140,000 died and to this day there's still problems at Hiroshi
