Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versialles was an agreement of peace between the major countries involved in world War 1. This agreement put an end to the War and gave blame and punishment to Germany. Germany had to cut back their military, they had to pay for damages, and had to give back territory. The treaty also established the League of Nations that helped to prevent future conflict. -
Start of the League of Nations
The League of Nations was an international assemble that was formed by the treaty of Versialles and was put into effect with the rest of the treaty. The goal was to help peacefully resolve conflicts without causing another war. Unfortunately the League was unsuccessful in preventing world War 2. -
The Japanese invasion of Manchuria
The Japanese invasion of Manchuria was led by Japan's Kwantung Army. They invaded after they staged the Mukden incident when they falsely planted their flag. This led to them occupying the region and they recieved very little resistance from the Chinese forces. They established the puppet state of Manchukuo. -
Remilitarization of Rhineland
The Remilitarization of Rhineland began when Nazi Germany sent their military forces into Rhineland. This was important because by doing this they were defying the treaty of Versialles. Rhineland was a demilitarized zone bordering France and Belgium. Hitlers goal in doing this was to further expand Germany and to protest against the treaty of Versialles. None of the countries interfered with his actions which only gave him the ability to continue. -
Munich Agreement
The Munich Agreement was decided during a conference, they concluded that the Sudetenland region would be ceded to Germany. It also said that Hitler would take over a part of Czechoslovakia as long as he didn't try to expand further. -
Invasion of Poland
The Invasion of Poland marked the begining of World War two. This was a surprise attack from both Germany and the Soviet Union on Poland. This was another act of defiance against the treaty of versialles from Hitler. This caused devistation for Poland and left people homeless. After they took over, Germany and the Soviet Union partitioned Poland into two territories. This also caused later tension between Germany and the Soviet Union. -
Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor was a devastating day in American History. It was a surprise military attack from Japan on a naval base in Hawaii. This caused the U.S. to enter the war on the allies side. Japan flew planes over Hawaii and dropped approximately 353 BOMBS(that's a lot more bombs than I was expecting)!!!!! A total of 2,403 service members and civilians were killed. -
Battle of Stalingrad
The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle during the war. It began when Germany and their allies attacked the Soviet union. They wanted to gain control over Stalingrad, a city in the Soviet Union. Germany wanted control over Stalingrad because it was an industrial power. It is considered a turning point in the war because it marked the start of the Soviets fighting with Germany and helped lead to Allied victory. -
Allied invasion of Italy
The Allied invasion of Italy happened when troops landed in Sicily with British and U.S. forces fighting inland. The goal of the invasion was to open up a second front in Europe to relieve pressure from the Soviets and to force the Axis powers to fight on another front. After they invaded Sicily, troops also landed on the mainland and British forces landed in Calabria and Amrican forces south of Salerno. -
D-day
D-day was the day that American troops landed on the beaches of Normandy. This was the largest seaborne invasion in history. The goal was to liberate western Europe from Nazi Germany. -
Battle of the Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge was the last major German offensive attack on the western front during World War two. This battle resulted in a lot of casualties on both sides of the war but the Allies ultimately repelled the German advance. It was a desperate surprise attack but ended in allied victory. -
Liberation of Concentration camps
Liberation of Concentration camps was when they freed the Jews from their camps. When the war ended, Allies advanced across Europe and as they discovered the concentration camps they liberated them. -
Battle of Okinawa
The Battle of Okinawa was a major battle between the United States and Japan. This was a brutal three month war fought on land. This was very important for leading to an invasion in Japan. The Battle ended in victory for the allied forces. -
VE day
VE day was the day Germany surrendered to the allied powers. VE stands for victory in europe. Celebration erupted around the world and marked the end of World War two. -
VJ day
VJ day also marked the end of World War two and stands for victory in Japan. President Truman announced that Japan had surrendered and the world broke out in celebration.
