Japanese Invasion of China

On July 7, 1937, Japan launched a full scale invasion attack on China. Japan accused China of firing them on first. It became known as the Marco Polo Bridge incident. This fighting sparked a full-blown conflict, the Second Sino-Japanese War. China had recieved aid from BRitain, France and the US maing them very anti-Japanese. The affects of the invasion not only included the 2nd war. it affected populations as well. -
Rape of Nanking (Nanking Massacre)

On December 13, 1937, the Japanese Imperial Army invaded Nanking, China. Over a six week period, the army sexually assaulted between 20,000 and 80,000 women and killed over 200,000 people in all. The Nanking Massacre lasted for over 6 weeks and caused a high impact on the population of Nanking. After the War ended, war-crrime trials were held, and the government soon started up as a brutal occupation by the name of "Nanking Self-Government Commitee". -
Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact (German-Soviet Pact)

On August 23, 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union signed a nonaggression pact stating that the two countries would not take military action against eachother for 10 years. The reason for this was a great one for both sides. Germany did not have to worry about the Soviet Union attacking them in the Second World War, and the Soviet Union was able to build up their military and keep peace. This pact did not last -
Germany Invades Poland

On Septmeber 1, 1939, German forces worked their way into Poland officially beginning World War II. Hitler had previously signed a non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union and decided they would infiltrate Poland so they could ward off their only enemy to the West. They wanted Poland to be a neutral state in the battles to come. This not only affected Poland, who never got the military support that was promised, to them by France, it sparked the war. -
German Blitzkrieg Begins
On September 28, 1939, The German Blitzkrieg, also known as "Lightning Warfare" began in Poland. The War had officially began between France & Britain and Germany, so Germany knew they would have to move quickly in order to take over Poland. Warsaw was soon captured. This began the spiral downwards for Europe into the dark war ages. -
Fall of Paris

The Fall of Paris cccured when Germany launched an attack on France. the reason for this was so Germany could then encircle France and British territory in order to threaten their forces. The Germans attacked and got Holland to surrender in only 4 days. They ended up invading France and other territory in which they occupied for almost four years. this affected Britain when they evacuated Dunkirk that left the UK open. -
Operation Barbarossa

On June 22, 1941, Hitler decided it was time for his forces to invade the Soviet Union. He sent over 3 million Geman soldiers and 3,000 tanks to take over the Soviet Front. Hitler wanted to be like a conqueror by using the Slavic population as slaves and annihilate all Jews. This impacted the war crucially. It's known as the turning point due to Germany having to fight a two front war due to their negligence. -
Pearl Harbor

On December 7th, right before 8 oclock. Japanese fighter planes came down across Hawaii at Peral Harbor. They took a two hour time lapse to destroy over 20 American Vessels and 200 Airplanes. The Japanese had attacked one of the US biggest Naval bases at the time. This impacted greatly and is what got America involved in WWII. -
The Wannsee Conference

On January 20, 1942, the top German officials met together in a conference to find a "solution for the Jewish problem". In this meeting Nazi Party members discussed their final points on how to rid of the Jewish people. They debated concentration camps, and how treatment in these camps would demonstrated to any Jewish person. Soon "gas vans" were killing 1,000 people a day. The Bataan Death March

On April 9th 1942, The Japanese marched 75,000 soldiers to prison camps killing most of them o the way. After the U.S surrendered the Bataan Peninsula to Japan, the soldiers whom were fighting were forced by the cruel Japanese to walk in heat, with no food and little water, and subjected to harm with the Japanese. Battle of Stalingrad

On July 17, 1942, a defensive movement by the U.S.S.R was acted on. Germany tried to invade their way into the Soviet Union, so the Soviet Union began to fight back in order to defend Stalingrad. It is considered one of the greatest battles in Russia's Great Patriotic War and in the war itself. Finally, it is known as the turning point of the war in Allied favor causing over 2 million deaths making it one of the bloodiest battles. -
Operation Gomorrah

Operation Gomorrah was knwon as the avengeful scheme. British and American bombers raided German cities. Britain had 167 casualties due to German bombers, so they took on Hamburg and began to bomb it. During this time Americans also bombed northern Germany. The affected Germany and brought them devastation to Hamburg. Officials began to worry. -
D-Day (Normandy Invasion)

The Landing of Normandy (AKA D-Day) was crucial to the war. French beaches had been overtaken by German soldiers, and US troops came on to the beaches in order to recaptured them. They were not able to fulfill their full potential due to complications but they gained a very strong lead due to theis day. This heped gain the liberation of Paris later in August, but it damaged the advantage of Germany during the war. -
Battle of the Bulge

In the Battle of the Bulge, Hitler's attempt to split Allied Forces was defeated by the US again. A surprise Blitzkrieg was implicated by Germany and luckily fought through tough battles in order to advance thier territory. As the Germans drove deeper in an attempt to secure vital bridgeheads, the Allied line took on the appearance of a large bulge, giving rise to the battle’s name. This helped neutralize German forces. -
Operation Thunderclap

On February 13, 1945, Operation Thunderclap was set into play. it was proposed to due much damage to Germany by ruining their infrastructure to the east. 2 waves of bombings occured in Dresden, the 7h most populated city and barely touched by bombs. This affected Germany because they lost some vital industrial suppiles and transportation. -
Battle of Iwo Jima

The Americans invaded Japanese Iwo Jima in order to gain a base near Japanese coast. The Japanese tried to defend their country well, but the 3 Marine divisions belonging to the US overcame. Even though the difficulty of all the conditions, the marines wiped out the defending forces after about a month of fighting, and the battle earned a win for the Americans once again. -
Battle of Okinawa

The very important bases needed to invade Japan were at stake during the battle of Okinawa. The Americans needed to invade Japan and this was their best place to infiltrate. The campaign lasted for 82 days and affected not only their soldiers but had almost an equal amount of civilians losses during this battle. The Americnas luckily captured the island making their move to end the war. -
VE Day (Victory in Europe)

Victory in Eurpoe Day was to celebrate the defeat of the German forces in Europe. While camps and such were still being liberated, the war was finally won in Europe. German forces had surrender everywhere, finally giving into their agressors. The war was ended and the Allied forces were able to prosecute the ones resoponsible for so many casualties and deaths. -

While German forces were failing in the European battles. Japan had began to fight more. The US decided it was time to put a stop to war with Japan. They were working on nuclear weaponry since 1940, and finally they sent the Enola Gay to drop a bomb on Hiroshima & later Nagasaki.This actually is what ended Japan involvement inn the war. It devsted the Japnese military and popluation extremely. -

After the atomic bombs was dropped on Hiroshima & Nagasaki, Japan had surrendered. Hirohito told his people to accept the surrender.The bombs had impacted greatly and the surrnder practically ended the war.
