German Blitzkrieg
"Lighting war" meaning to bomb through enemy lines to flatten everything. Then the troops move in with tanks and trucks constantly pushing through the the lines. The first one was used in Poland then moved to Belgium/ France and so on until they had complete control of all of Europe. -
Operation Barabarossa
Hitler launched his army east , and started a massive invasion on the Soviet Union. The planed failed because of their supplie lines had to keep getting supplied and they couldn't. There were now three different fronts that had to be supplied. -
Pearl Harbor
Japanese Zeros bomb U.S naval vessels in Hawaii. The U.S enters the war . The U.S looses many ships, planes and soldiers but the aircraft carriers were not there at the time. -
Battle of Stalingrad
The Battle of Stalingrad , was the successful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad in the U.S.S.R. during World War II.It stopped the German advance into the Soviet Union and marked the turning of the tide of war in favor of the Allies. The cold weather froze the Germans and stopped supplies to them. -

Major advances in code breaking, the U.S was able to preempt and counter Japan’s planned ambush aircraft carriers. The battle was an I mportant turning point in the Pacific campaign. the Battle of Normandy, resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi's control. 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region.The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history. -
The Battle of Bulge
Hitler attempted to split the Allied armies in northwest Europe. A surprise blitzkrieg thrust through the Ardennes to Antwerp. As the Germans drove deeper into the Ardennes in an attempt to secure vital bridgeheads. The Allied line took on the appearance of a large bulge, giving rise to the battle’s name. Patton's third army advances and crushes the remaining German forces there. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The American amphibious invasion formed a base near the Japanese coast. Air and naval bombardment occurred first . Three U.S. marine divisions landed on the island. 23,000 Japanese army and navy troops, who fought through caves, dugouts, tunnels and underground installations which they made. But the marines wiped out the defending forces after a month of fighting, -
VE Day
After the battle of Berlin was conquered by the Russians and Hitlers suicide. The war in Europe was over .Great Britain and the United States celebrate Victory in Europe Day. Cities in both nations, as well as formerly occupied cities in Western Europe, put out flags and banners. -
