Submarine Warfare
This picture shows a submarine from World War 1. During the war submarines were used for fighting. The Germans had the submarine called the U-Boat. The Germans sunk the British steamship called the Lusitania. The boat had a about 118 Americians on the boat. This is one thing that led the United States to war. -

The photo shows the electorial votes from the election of 1916. Wilson was reelected for a second term. During the world crisis Wilson had to prepare for an election. The republicans chose Charles Evans to run against Wilson. -

This is a newspaper article that the headlines read "War is Declared by U.S.." Britian intercepted a message about the United States that was sent from Germany to Mexico. It said that Mexico would help Germany attack the United States. In return Mexico would get there lost trritories of Texas and New Mexico. -

This picture shows the U.S. navy in the begginning world war 1. The Navy was the first prepared to fight for the United States. The Navy helped fight back German U-boats. There were 834 United States Naval boats in British waters by 1917. -
Selective Service Act
This picture shows Uncle Sam on a poster getting recruits. This was the first time the U.S. had a draft. In case of death the government would pay 10,000 per soldier. Out of 24 million registered for the draft 2.8 million were selected and 2 million more voluntered. -
The Air War
This picture shows a squadron of the U.S. airforce in 1917. By the beginning of the war the United States had 55 planes. In World War 1 they called air to air fighting dog fights. By the end of the war the United States had 3227 planes. -
Paris Peace Conferance
This picture shows the representitives sitting at the Paris Peace Conferance. This was where the countries met in order to make a peace treaty and end the war. The document was created in order to make permant peace. -
Financing the War
This shows the amount of money the government borrowed from the people. The war was costing the United States $44 million a day. Some of the funds needed came from increased taxs on individual and corporate taxes. In four massive loans the citzens loaned the government 21 billion dollars.
