Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the Austria-Hungary thrown, but was assassinated right after being in the thrown. One reason he was assassinated was because the Serbian rebels wanted their own country and thought that maybe if they killed the future leader, they could get that. Even though Ferdinand was trying to make the country altogether more powerful as a whole. -

Austria-Hungary declared war a month after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. They declared war on Serbia because rebels from Serbia assassinated him in order to prove a point, to keep themselves safe, apparently. -

This was the battle that was fought between Russia and Germany. The battle took place from August 26th to the 30th, which ended up resulting in almost complete destruction of the Russian Second Army. Not only that, but the captain of the army committed suicide, General Alexander Samsonov. -

The Battle of Masurian Lake. It was a German offensive on the Eastern Front during WW1. This was the second time Germany beat Russia's army. The first defeat was at the battle of Tedensburg. -

This battle was fought on the Western Front around Ypres, in West Flanders, Belgium. The Allied and Central Powers went at it until November 22nd. -
Turkey Enters the War
Turkey eventually enters the war. They side with the Central Powers and helped a German naval bombardment of Russia. -
Britain and France Declare War on Turkey
Britain and France were Russia's allies. Since they were allied with Russia, of course they were going to battle the countries that allied with Germany. -

This is when the first Zeppelins appeared at the English coast. This was a German airship that was named after count Ferdinand Von Zeppelin. -

Took place at Yarmouth England. It was where Zeppelin airships were dropped bombs there, causing a lot of destruction. -
Lusitania Sunk
The sinking of this ship outraged and angered American citizens. U.S. citizens made protests about the German U-Boat campaign. They were angered by the fact many people on the boat were targeted, innocent people at that. -
Italy Joins the War!
Italy joins into the war. They became part of the war by joining the allied side. -
Romania Enters the War
Romania comes into the war and joins the side of the allies. But was occupied by Germans and Austrians after a few months.
