  • Gallipoli (campaign)

    The Gallipoli Campaign was a campaign of the First Word War that took place on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The campaign was a mission to seize the peninsula and clear the way for the Royal Navy the capture the Turkish capital of what is now Istanbul (then Constantinople). There was an estimated 27,000 French and 115,000 British and dominion troops both killed and wounded.
  • Battle of the Somme

    The Battle of the Somme started on July 1st 1916 and lasted until November 1916. It was the battle that symbolised the horrors of World War 1. By the end of the battle the British Army had 420,000 casualties, including almost 60,000 on day one. The French lost approximately 200,000 people and the German lost nearly 500,000.
  • Bullecourt

    The Bullecourt battle took place on the 11th April 1917. The purpose of this battle was to expand their offensive line therefore taking over the German defensive line at Bullecourt. This resulted in approximately 7480 casualties.
  • Messines

    The battle of Messines was launched on 7th June 1917 and lasted until June 14 1917. It was designed to force the German army to withdraw from the main battlefront of Vimy Arras. The battle of Messines resulted in an estimated 2000 plus casualties as a result of a gas attack and other factors.
  • Beersheba

    The battle of Beersheba was the first part of the third battle of Gaza. The attack of Beersheba was fought on the 31st of October 1917 and took place in Beersheba, Ottoman Syria. It was an attack and capture on the Yildirim Army Group by the EEF (Egyptian Expeditionary Force). This attack resulted in approximately 2,267 people killed, wounded and taken prisoner.
  • Villers Bretonneux

    Villers Bretonneux 1st battle lasted from 30 March-5 April 1918. The 9th Australian Brigade had approx. 665 casualties, its unknown how many casualties Germany suffered. Although the 9th Australian Brigade recorded 4000 dead German soldiers on their front. The 2nd battle of Villers Bretonneux (24-24 April 1918), German forces using infantry and tanks captured Villers-Bretonneux from British defenders. In the second battle there was approx. 21,900 casualties, including prisoners.
