    A group of Russians were peacefully protesting when they were shot by soldiers. This event was one of the many that lead to the Russian Revolution.

    The First World War was a global conflict between the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy) and the Triple Entente (France, Britain and Russia). The catalyst of the war was the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife, heirs to the Austro-Hungarian throne. World War One concluded with over 17 million deaths and 20 million wounded. Is is for this reason the we strive today to avoid another one of these global conflicts.

    Russian Revolution Begins
    The Russians, with the help of Lenin, overthrew the monarchy and became an Authoritarian government.

    Treaty of Versailles
    This treaty, signed after World War One, was thought to be the key to lasting peace. It formed the League of Nations, the precursor to the United Nations, an alliance of countries formed to help keep world peace and avoid another Great War.

    The Age of Anxiety

    The Age of Anxiety occurred after the First World War and lasted throughout the 1920s. During this time period many new discoveries were made in religion, science, psychology, and the arts. New ideas such as existentialism, Freudian psychology, modernism and functionalism have lasted into today's world.

    The Japanese invaded the Chinese port of Manchuria. This halted the modernization efforts of China.

    The Holocaust

    The Holocaust began long before World War Two with the first concentration camp being built. The Holocaust killed over 6 million Jews and 10 million total. These horrifying and traumatic events continue to effect people even today. It is events such as this one that stress the importance of world peace and avoiding another World War. The phrase "Never Again" is used today to help remember the Holocaust.

    The Second World War began with Germany invading Poland, a major country in the League of Nations.

    Te Second World War was a global conflict between The League of Nations (Britain, France, Poland, Russia, etc.) and Germany, lead by Adolf Hitler. The catalyst of the war was Germany invading Poland. World War Two also brought to light the events of the Holocaust which had begun approximately 6 years earlier.
  • United States Bombs Hiroshima

    United States Bombs Hiroshima
    The United States dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan near the end of World War Two. The creation of the atomic bomb was a major breakthrough in science at the time and one that continues to last into the present day. Military advancements are extremely important in today's world and the atomic bomb, while it has never been used, is still a major threat.

    United States Bombs Nagasaki
    Two days after the bombing of Hiroshima the U.S. dropped another bomb on Nagasaki. The Japanese surrendered eight days later. These two instances are the only times in history that an atomic bomb has been used.
