    What happend? The Japanese army bombarded Nanking, causing casualties measuring to tens of thousands of people. Why? It was a piece of the Invasion of China. Effects: One of the most shocking events in history with a death toll as high as 250,000

    What happend? German personal bombarded Poland from both the air and land. Why? Adolf Hitler seeked to regain lost territory and rule Poland. Effects: Start of World War II and signing of Ribbontrop-Molotov Nonagression pact.

    What happend? Hitler launched his armies eastward in a massive invasion on the Soviet Union; 3 million German soldiers, 150 divisions and three thousand tanks diminished across the frontier into Soviet territory. Why? Hitler wanted to defeat communism in the USSR and take over land and use the Soviet people for slave labor. Effects: It forced Nazi Germany to fight a two sided war.

    What happend? A barrage of Japanese fighter planes attacked Pearl Harbor, Killing more than 2,000 soldiers and destroying 20 battleships and almost 200 planes. Why? America had an embargo on Japan and they wanted America to join the war so they could show America was weak. Effects: America declared war on Japan, which caused Italy and Germany to declare war on America also.

    What happend? NAzi officials met to discuss details of the " FInal Solution" of the "Jewish Question" Why? Herman Goering, who was writing under Hitler's instruction, had ordered Reinhard Heydrich to submit as soon as possible a general plan of administrative material and financial measures necessary for carrying out the desired final solution to the Jewish Question. Effects: Months later the gas vans Chelmno, Poland proved to be the main solvent they were looking for

    Battle of Midway
    What happend? WWII naval battle, fought pretty much with mostly aircraft, which the U.S. destroyed Japan's first line carrier strength and most of its naval pilots. Why? Japan was seeing too capture midway and expand their defensive perimeter. Effects: Japan had 248 aircrafts destroyed and had 3,057 casualties. The U.S. only had 150 aircrafts destroyed and 307 casualties

    Battle of Stalingrad
    What happend? The Societ successfully defended the city of Stalingrad against Germany. Why? When German forces advanced into Soviet Territory, they were haulted at the resistance of the Red Army. Effects: The Soviet Union had won a successful victory against Nazi Germany

    What happend? Civilians of the Jewish Ghettos in Nazi controlled Warsaw, Poland. Which staged an armed revolt against deportations to diminish camps. Why? Jews in Warsaw did not want to go to concentration camps. Effects: Inspired several other revolts in camps and ghettos throughout German occupied Europe.

    Operation Gomarrah
    What happend? British bombers raided Hamburg, Germany by night, adn Americans vigoriously bombed it by day in it's own "Blitz Week". Why? Britain had suffered the deaths of 167 civililans as a wage of German bombing raids. Effects: There was over 17,000 bombs dropped and over 30,000 civilians wered killed along with 280,00 buildings being destroyed.

    What happend? 156,00 American, British, and Canadian forces landed on a 50 mile stretch of conjoined beaches on the coast of France. Why? Amercia and Great Britan wanted to do a major invasion of Germany the controlled France across the English channel. Effects: Allies captured the French port of Cherbourg, also made German soldiers retreat and finally liberated Paris

    What happend? it was just a plan that was thought up of to bomb Berlin. Why? It would shatter German Morale by the killing of several. Effects: Nothing due to the plan being diminished.

    What haooend? German forces pushed through Allied defenses to split them in half, which ended in much bloodshed with well over 100,000 casualties. Why did it happen? The German army was trying to split allied forces to commend peace negotiation. Effects: Deflated the German army with many casualties to it. Germany could not attack Allied personal again

    What happend? American forces invaded the amphibious island of Iwo Jima. Which was defended by 23,000 Japanese army and navy troops. Why? We needed a base near the Japanese coast. Effects: After a month of fighting, we finally took over and defeated all the Japanese troops. Winning us the island of Iwo Jima

    What happend? Victory in Europe day is the day when German troops surrendered and the Allied forces earned a great victory.Why? The main worry of most German soldiers was to elude the grasp of Soviet forces, to keep from being held prisoner. Effects: World War II ends and the Allied powers rejoice in victory.

    Dropping the Atomic  Bombs
    What happend? The U.S. dropped the first atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Japan. Why? President Truman warned by his advisors that any attempt to invade Japan would result in horrific American Casualties, ordered that the new weapons shall be used immediately to end the war. Effects: The drops of atomic bombs ended World War II but many thought that it had sparked the Cold War. Also effects of radiation still plays a factor in Japan's select cities that were hit.

    What happend? Japan had surrendered unconditionally to the Allied Powers. Why? Japan had been devasted by the atomic bomb droppings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Effects: Parts of the end of WWII known as "Victory Over Japan"

    Battle of Okinawa
    What happend? American troops invaded Okinawa in order to eventually invade Japan.Why? American medium bombers could reach the Japanese home island from Okinawa, and it's seizure would sever the remaining southwest supply lines to Japan. Effects: Caused Japan to lose 77,000 soldiers and the Allies suffered well over 65,000 casualties
