    French Revolution
    The French Revolution caused an increased division between the Americans, the French, and the British as it forced the Americans to decide which European superpower to aid. This later led to the declaration of neutrality of the Americans by George Washington. However, this action caused the Americans to become the enemy of both superpowers, which led to further damage to the American economy and political system after the pass of the Embargo Act
  • Impressement

    Impressement
    The practice of Impressment under the British was that it allowed any able-bodied subjects to be drafted for service in the Royal Navy in an emergency. However, the British also drafted many U.S citizens into the Navy. This practice was a major hit to the American pride, which was an indirect cause to the War of 1812.

    Thomas Jefferson proposed and then passed an act, which forbade all export shipping from U.S. ports to foreign countries.

    In the last sixteen days of President Thomas Jefferson's presidency, the Congress replaced the Embargo Act of 1807 with the Non-Intercourse Act . This Act lifted all embargoes on American shipping and exporting except for those bound for British or French ports.

    This bill authorized the president to restart the activity of stopping all trade to either Britain or France if the other country would stop inhibiting American trade. It removed all restrictions on trade with France and Britain and was enacted mainly because the States were alarmed by the growing federal deficit.

    Tecumseh and the Battle of Tippecanoe
    Tecumseh was a Shawnee chief who tried to stop Native Americans from converting to the ways of the white settlers. Lots of tribes banded together to drive the settlers off of Indian land, until General William Henry Harrison, the governor of the Indian Territory, marched against Tecumseh's camp at Prophetstown. On November 7th, Prophetstown was destroyed and the resistance stopped. The settlers directed their resentment of the trouble to the British in Canada, causing more settlers to want war.

    The United States Declares War with Britain
    With the increasing tensions between the British and the United States had been increasing dramatically. However the British was slowly starting the Orders of Council because of a depression that was caused by Napoleon's Continental System. Americans were urging the British to repeal the Orders and by June 23 when the ministries changed, Lord Castlereagh suspended the Orders, five days too late. The United States had Declared War on June 18.

    Fort at which the Star Spangled Banner was written by John Stafford Smith after the flag of the United States stood still after a twenty-four hour period of attack.

    Great Britain declares war on the United States
    On January of issued a decleration that stated war against America and had stated the reasons for doing so. The British had declared war a little later then the Americans which was on June 23,1812. There several battles before and after the docment was made whcih was one of the reasons for the issueing of the document.

    The Hartford Convention was held in Hartford, Connecticut, where the New England Federalist Party met to discuss the problems they had with the ongoing War of 1812 and the political problems arising from the federal government's increasing power.
  • The Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent
    The British and the Americans decided to leave things as they were before the war. The other issues that the war had been because of, like British impressment, had dissolved on their own. The treaty merely ended the state of hostilities.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    This battle was considered by some to be the end of the war, but the Treaty of Ghent was signed as the battle was going on, so it was proved unnecessary. However, the battle raised American morale and pride in their nation and made General Andrew Jackson very popular, so it wasn't a complete failure.
