Zeus declares Paris, prince of Troy, the judge of the "Apple of Discord" contest (Nash). Goddesses Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena are participants to see who is the "fairest" (Nash). Paris chooses Aphrodite due to her promise she gave (Nash). -

The Kidnapping
Helen was the most beautiful woman in the world (Lomio). Paris sails to Sparta and steals Helen (Jordan). -

The Search
The hunt began in Troy to find Helen and bring her home (Lomio). -

Odysseus and Menelaus go to Priam
Odysseus and Menelaus visited Priam, the king of Troy and father of Paris, and requested that he return Helen (Lomio). When Priam refused, Odysseus and Menelaus knew that a war was inevitable (Lomio). -

Beginning of the War (1194 BC)
The Greeks triumphed over many towns near Troy, but Troy itself avoided defeat for ten years (Troy). During the first nine years of the war, hardly any progress was made towards rescuing Helen (Trojan War). -
Trojan Horse
Greeks used a gigantic wooden horse called the "Trojan Horse" to sneak into the city at night. (Trojan) A Greek man named Sinon was left in order to convince the Trojans that it was a peace offering from the Greeks. (Trojan) -
Spartans Destroy Troy (1184 BC)
The Acheans went into the city at night while everyone was asleep and began killing Trojans (Jones). This led to a gigantic massacre that followed all the way though to the next day. (Jones) -
Troy is Taken.
When the battle finally ended, the Greeks divided up the riches among each other (Jones). -
Enslavement.
All the men of Troy were slaughtered by Greek soldiers during the Trojan Horse battle (Peach 14). The women and children who survived the battled were spared their lifes, but they were enslaved by the Greek soldiers (Peach 14). -
Aeneas Escapes.
Aeneas was a very well know warrior who was in Troy at the time of the attack (Cotterell). Aeneas and his family managed survive the brutal attack on Troy (Cotterell). Even though Aeneas and his famliy had survived the attack, they couldn't stay; it was too dangerous (Peach 14). Aeneas and his famliy managed to sneek out of Troy unoticed and were safe (Peach 14). -
Conclusion
The Trojan war was said to have been an attempt to retreive Helen, the most beautiful woman (Lomio). However, much of what we know about the Trojan War comes from Homer's poem "The Iliad" (Lovgren). Most historicans do not believe that the Torjan War was actually fought over Helen; some possible reasons money, glory, or some kind of malfeasance toward the Greek king (Lovgren). The most significant effect of the war was that the city of Troy was destroyed (Trojan). -
