Louisiana Purchase
In 1803 Thomas Jerfferson purchased the Lousiana territory from the French. He paid 15 million dollars for this section of land, this strechted from the Mississippi river to the Rocky mountains, and from Canada to New Orleans.

Moving of the Natives
The U.S. government gave the first official notice to the Native Americans to mover west of the Mississippi River. -
Alamo War
300 american families were granted land in Mexico becoming Texican citizens. When slavery was outlawed in Mexico, the TExans were expected to do the same. THis resulted in a war between Mexico and Texas, for the independance of Texas citizens. This was called the Alamo war.

Trail of Tears
In 1834 the Cherokee tribe living in Georgia was forced from their homelands and moved to Oklahoma. Instead of fighting back they took this matter to court but Andrew Jackson (president a the time) went against them and the federal government to make the Natives leave. During this forced march 1 in 4 Natives died. -
Texas Joins the U.S.
Under the presidency of James K Polk Texas joined the union. Joining as a slave state, Texas was one of the last states to get added to the U.S. as a slave state. -
Mexican War
U.S. president James K Polk claimed (falsely) that mexican forces had invaded american soil and shed american blood. This caused a one and ahalf year war, that spreaded into california and new mexico, texas and aslo into mexico itself. With a weakened mexican army the United states had an easier victory.

Gold Rush
James Wilson Marshall, while working at a saw mill, discovers flakes of gold floating in the river. The golden flakes come from the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. When news got out about this discovery people the Eastern Coast flocked to California in hopes of finding gold. They were known as the 49ers -
End of Mexican War
After the U.S. made an easy victory against Mexico, the Mexican government had to sign the treaty of Gudalope Hidalgo, along with giving up the territories of Texas, New Mexico, and California to the U.S. government, and pay 15 million dollars. The U.S. residents living in mexico were released back to the states.

Minnesota becomes a territory with a population around 150,000. This territory was part of the Michigan territories. -
Kentucky Compromise
The debate between slavery in Texas had come back into debate after the Alamo War, this created a four part compromise. The first part was that California would join the U.S. as a slave free state, the second was slavery in Mexican territories was decieded by the people living there, third, the slave trade in Washington D.C. was abolished and finally, any slaves who escaped to the north, the owner was able to go to the north to bring them back to their farm.

Sioux hanging
In Mankato Minnesota a mass killing of 38 Native American because of the "crimes" of the Sioux uprising. Origionally 303 were sent to death but President Lincoln intervened and order a complete review of the records, reducing the list down to 40. -
Independance from Mexico
The american settlers in texas, joined a group with their Tejano neighbors and fought the mexican goverment to gain their independance.
