Original 13 Colonies
In 1776, the 13 colonies of North America damanded independence from Great Britian. The 13 Colonies and Great Britian had a war called The American Revoulition. The 13 colonies won and independence was awarded and a country was born. -
Northwest Territory
The new country wanted to obtain more land and they had a idea to get the ohio river valley. The goverment came up 5 states to create out of the Northwest Territory. They were Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin. In order for any of these states to become official they had to have no slavery, free education, 60,000 people have to live in the state, must have a Bill Of Rights, and a Constitution. -
Louisiana Purchase
After the Northwest territory America still had a thirst for adventure and expantion. Thomas Jefferson asked the french embassador to buy Lousianna for 15 million. This made shipping a lot easier because we now own the mississippi river and we can ship things up and down it. This purchase doubled the size of America -
Adams-Onis Treaty

Texas Annexation
Many Americans moved to Texas Seeking free or cheap land and a second chance. texas tried to break away from mexico. They eventually did, then America adopted the new country and it is now Texas. -
Mexican Cession
A Treaty was signed called Guadalupe Hidalgo, this gave America present day Arizona, New Mexico, parts of Colorado, and parts of Wyoming. The U.S gained 25% more land. -
Oregon Territory
The area was held by Great Britian, Russia, Spain, and the U.S.
The U.S wanted control of this area so they signed a treaty with Great Britian for the land. The states that are formed form it are Oregon, Washington, Idaho, some of Montana, and some of Wyoming. -
Gadsden Purchase
Americans were trying to avoid another war with Mexico so they agreed to purchase this land. They bought this land for 10 million dollars, America gained Arizona and New Mexico. America finally got the south and reached the Pacific Ocean.
