Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was set forth by the King to keep the British Colonist from expanding westward. By neglecting that rule, it was an import step taken by the colonist that lead to slowly breaking away from British rule. It also showed the British not wanting the colonists to reach issues among the indians and have them get into a war with them. -
Northwest territory
gained control of the ohio river valley. Major part of America breaking away from Britain.Gained Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and indiana. Excluded slavery permanently in the northwest. -
Louisiana Purchase
doubled the size of the United States.Allowed for the 50,00 or so people in that territory to receive American citizenship. Gave access to the Mississippi and New Orleans that would allow for trade and was easy to navigate. -
Red River Basin
United states signed the treaty with Great Britain after the war of 1812 which allowed us to gain modern states of north dakota and and minnesota which contained the red river basin. -
East and West Florida
Adams-Onis treaty was created during this time that not only enabled the US get Florida from Spain, but it also set a boundry between the US and what is now Mexico. -
Webster-Ashburton treaty
Around 1842 Great Britain was having a few foreign policy problems. The treaty solved all of the frictions in an anglo-american way. -
Annexation of Texas
Granted huge tracts of land along Louisiana, along the Sabine, Colorado, and Brazos river. Gained independence from Mexico and concluded the Mexican-American war and caused the making of the treaty Guadalupe Hidalgo. -
Oregon Territory
created the boundary between canada and the US. Convinced Britain to settle upon the land and attracted a lot of families to move westward. -
Mexican Cession
included land that would become California, Nevada and Utah and also parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. The Guadalupe-Hidalgo treaty was signed which recognized Texas as a US state and allowed Mexians who remained in the state to become US citizens. -
gadsden purchase
The purchase included lands south of the Gila River and west of the Rio Grande. Mainly wanted to help form the transcontinental railroad that would run in the lower south, which expanded trade opportunities. In the end the territory was bought for ten million dollars but Mexico “balked” at any large scale sale of land. -
Alaska
Rich and resourceful land that was worth way more than America had paid for it.bought it for 7.2 million. -
Hawaii
Main place for sugar trade. Hawaiian's wanted to overthrow their queen and turned to the US armed for protection.
