Around 40,000 to 16,500 years ago hunters from Siberia followed wild game across the Bering Strait from Siberia to now moderan day Alaska. The Bering Strait was a land bridge created when the sea levels drop during the last Ice Age. Eventually these hunters would inhapit the rest of the two continets and become what we now know as Native Americans. -

Leif Erikson's Vinland
On a coarse to convert the people of Greenland to Christians, Leif and his crew were blow off course. The land he found was filled with self-sown wheat fields and grape vine thus he named it Vinland. He made it back to Greenland and found some men who have also been to this Vinland. Then Leif went back to Vinland one last time for exploration and left a camp behind that archaeologist would later find. -

Zheng He's Map
The map you see to your left is a 17th century map based off of a 14th century map of the world. This map was argued by some scholars proving Zheng He discovered the Americas and traveled the globe before Europe. Many people discard this as a hoax for a number of reasons. The first is china isn’t at the center of the map and the second is it closely resembles a French map in the 17th century. -

Christopher Columbus The Moron
In the fourteen nineties, one man thought he could find an easier route to china by sailing the ocean blue. Most argued against him not because they thought the earth was flat but because they knew the distance from Europe to China going west was far greater than what Chris thought. He finally got support from the Spanish crown for his voyage. After a few months at sea he finds a chain of islands and sails back to Europe with his findings, creating the fisrt lasting connection of East and West. -

Christopher Columbus Voyage 2 The New World

In his second voyage Christopher explored new islands and land just as he did before. He also decided to capture the locals of these lands and hold them ransom for their gold. Most of this is looked over in children’s books but to be fair, none of it rhymes with “In 1492,” or “Ocean Blue,” but screw it I can come up with something. “In 1493, Christopher went mad and cut off some Native Americans' hands.” -

John Cabot
Giovanni Caboto, Otherwise known as Jon Cabot was an Italian explorer who was sent by Henry VII of England to find new land. His first voyage was a disaster with him heading as far south as the Bahamas. On his second though he did reach the mainland of North America being the first European explore to do so other than Leif Erickson. -

Columbus Take 3
On The third trip to the new world Columbus went with six ships which eventually split up. Half of them went to explore old territory previously passed. The other half and Columbus went to look for a pass through the land to get to the Pacific. They never found the pass and due to supply shortages went back to Spain. -

Columbus IV No Hope
On his last voyage before retiring, Columbus’s ship to substantial damage and was forced to take port in Jamaica. While there, he bargained with locals to give him food and water. They eventually said screw this and stopped but then he convinced then otherwise. When a lunar eclipse came up, he told them this was a sign for his god that he was angry at them for not feeding him. They gave in and eventually help came and saved Columbus and his crew. -

Spanish Early Exploration
From about 1510 to 1530 Spain was mostly focused on concurring the Caribbean islands such as Cuba, Jamaica, Panama, Mexico, ext. The first actually colony was set up in 1511 and many other smaller towns were set up as well. Word later spread about the un-concurred west coast of South America which excited Spain since Portugal already had control of east South America (Brazil). -

Brazil
Though the Portuguese Empire did claim the area of Brazil in 1500, the first real colony was never established till 1532. There most people lived around the coast and mainly grew sugar cane and imported slaves from Africa for work. When the crops stated to go south gold was discovered leading to the Brazilian Gold Rush in the 1690. -

Jacques Cartier

Jacques Cartier is a French explorer who would claim most of Canada for the French Empire. Like most men sent to North America he was after the Northwest Passage. He never found this but he explored and concurred areas like Quebec and the east coast of Canada. -

Later Spanish Colonization
Spain was now on a conquest inland in areas like Mexico and west South America gathering as much gold and silver. Most weapons used to take down the Native Americans were guns, swords, but nothing helped more than disease. After the wars Spain now had control over most of Central America and west South America. -
Henry Hudson

Henry Hudson was an English explorer who was sent by the crown to discover the Northwest Passage, a sea way passage that leads straight to Asia. Thought he tried twice both attempts ended with no success. The first attempt he found the Hudson River and went back to Europe. On the second attempt he tried going through north Canada but he was mutinied and left to die. -
The Pilgrims
The Pilgrims in 1620 were a group of people seeking religious freedom from England. They all pitched in and got a ship called the Mayflower and went for the new world. They veered off course landing north of their original destination. There they explored and created one of the more stable relationships with the Native Americans. -
Lewis and Clark Expadition
The Lewis and Clark Expedition was an exploration ordered by Tomas Jefferson to find an all water route through America to the Pacific Coast. The crew was led by Merriweather Lewis and William Clark. Along their route they found new species and tribes of Native Americans. They found that there is no all water route through North America and the inland has a lot to offer for settlers.
