The Missouri Compromise was a two-part compromise that allowed Missouri to become a slave state but also admited Main as a free state, also drawing an imaginary line, separating the North and South States, as free and slave states. -
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo gave the U.S the Texas territory as well as the Mexican Cession including the regions of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico, as well as parts of Wyoming and Colorado in exchange for $15 million to Mexico. -
The Gadsden Purchase
The Gadsden Purchase, the purchase of of the land south of the Mexican Cession was arranged by James Gadsden for $10 million from Mexico. This land was useful as it was relatively flat and could be used for the railroad. -
